State of Colorado to adopt the 2020 NEC

The latest version of the NFPA 70 National Electrical Code (NEC) is adopted statewide every three years. On August 1, the 2020 NEC will be adopted in Colorado and enforced in Denver. As a result, the 2020 NEC will become the minimum standard for electrical permits issued on or after August 1, 2020. Any project drawings logged in for review prior to August 1 will be reviewed under the 2017 NEC. Project drawings logged in on or after August 1 will be reviewed under the 2020 NEC.

The first annual report for the Green Buildings Ordinance has been released
The Green Buildings Ordinance (GBO), which took effect November 2, 2018, allows building owners flexibility while collectively raising the bar on building performance and contribution to Denver’s long-term viability and health. In its first full year of implementation, approximately 65 permitted projects complied with the GBO, and are now using less energy, adding more green space, and contributing less to the urban heat island effect, among other health and environmental benefits, than they would have without this crucial law.
