"Engage ALL students in experiences that inspire

EACH to grow as learners, individuals,

and community members."

January 19th, 2024

Dear Eisenhower Families

We hope everyone is having a wonderful start to the new year. As we move into the middle of our second trimester of learning, we want to renew our conviction of setting goals, being consistent, and striving to reach our full potential.

With this being said, if you have not yet started, please set a goal of reading 20-minutes per night with your child. Be sure to define new vocabulary words for your child, provide rich and robust word alternatives and choices, discuss the story, share ideas, read with expression, intonation, and, above all, enjoy your time together.

In addition to reading each night, discuss with your child's teacher any math concepts or skills that they might need extra reinforcement with at home. Use another 10-minutes each night to practice numeracy skills such as counting, adding, subtracting, understanding story problems, measuring, counting money, telling time, analyzing graphs and shapes, identifying more or less than, and the concept of probability.

Our hope is that this 30-minutes of nightly practice and review will not only create a strong foundation in your child's reading and math fluency but also enhance your family time.

Valentines' Card & Party Update

Eisenhower, Ross, and Sullivan want to provide clarification regarding Valentine's Day expectations for parties.

Students are welcome to bring Valentines for all of their classmates.

Valentines will be exchanged before the parties begin.

Students may not bring candy or food items to pass out with the Valentine cards.

If Valentine’s cards purchased are accompanied by stickers, bookmarks, pencils, erasers, or other non-food items, they may be passed out with valentine cards.

Please do not feel obligated to purchase items to pass out to the students.

Our PTO room parents are planning some great crafts and activities for the students’ parties.

Upcoming District Assessments

There are many things synonymous with the winter months, including cold weather, winter sports, and warm drinks. Well, here at school the winter and spring months are synonymous with state testing. Beginning in January, the State of Illinois assesses all Multilingual Learners (MLs)(formerly known as English Learners or ELs) using the ACCESS Test (Accessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State), which measures the language proficiency of multilingual learners over time in states across the country in four areas: listening, reading, speaking, and writing. The ACCESS window in the State of Illinois runs from January 17 through March 5. An alternate version of this assessment is also available for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.

Erin's Law Presentations

This year, our Erin’s Law mandate is being fulfilled by Childhood Victories, Inc. The Erin’s Law mandate requires schools to implement an annual age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness and prevention curriculum for grades pre-K through 12. It also expects all school staff members to be mandated reporters and report any suspicion of child sexual assault or abuse.

Childhood Victories, Inc. will be presenting the Be Seen and Heard© curriculum that fulfills the Erin’s Law mandate on the following dates:

Eisenhower School - February 15, 2024

Betsy Ross School - February 13, 2024

Anne Sullivan School - February 9, 2024

MacArthur Middle School - February 5, 2024

This sexual abuse awareness and prevention curriculum delicately delivers the information needed to fulfill this mandate and more importantly, educates the children. Childhood Victories, Inc. covers many aspects of life, and each curriculum is delivered in a fun and entertaining way. For more on the Be Seen and Heard© Curriculum and an explanation of Erin’s Law please visit

www.victorpacini.com/erins-law-programs. If after your child hears their school presentation you have additional questions, please reach out to your building principal, school psychologist, or school social worker. They would be happy to answer any questions about the program or address any questions that your child may have. If at this time you do not want your child to participate in the presentation, please click this link and fill out the form to excuse your child from the presentation. This form must be completed by Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.
