April 18th, 2025

Dear Eisenhower Families,

Just a reminder, next week is our kindergarten screening for the 2025-2026 school year. We look forward to seeing all of our new little eagles and welcoming them into the larger D23 Family! If you have not yet done so, we ask that you go into the PowerSchool Parent Access and register for the 2025-2026 school year. Also, please mark your calendars for our Wednesday, May 21st Young Athletes Field Day. More information will be coming in the next few weeks.

Early Childhood, Kindergarten, and First Grade News

Our early childhood students are finishing up their study on buildings. They have been learning about different types of buildings, who builds them, and what materials are used to make them. We've been very busy constructing all kinds of buildings using a variety of materials. The students also enjoyed building letters and practicing letter identification and sounds.

Kindergarten is working on writing stories using a beginning, middle and end. All of the kindergarten classrooms have buddied up with first grade classes to write and illustrate their own stories. They did an amazing job working together, and we look forward to receiving our published book.

In first grade, students are exploring the great variety in the plant world, as well as how plants grow and survive from season to season.

Assessment Update

There are many things synonymous with the winter months, including cold weather, winter sports, and warm drinks. Well, here at school the winter and spring months are synonymous with state testing. Currently, we are focusing on the State of Illinois's ACCESS Test for Multilingual Learners in grades K-12. Coming soon, students in grades 3-12 will be taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness, which is a statewide test in English/language arts (ELA) and mathematics. The state uses this information to provide more support and resources to the schools in the greatest need. This year’s testing window is from March 3 to April 30. Your school will let you know of their chosen testing window within this timeframe as it approaches. An alternate version of the assessment is also available for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities as well.

In addition to this assessment, students in grades 5, 8, and 11 in the State of Illinois are also required to take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA), which measures students' progress in the area of science over time. Both the Illinois Assessment of Readiness in ELA and Mathematics and the Illinois Science Assessment are aligned with state standards in their subject areas.

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.

Last Chance to Get Your Yearbook!

We have a limited number of yearbooks still available for purchase—a great way to remember all the special moments from this school year.

If you haven’t grabbed yours yet, now’s a great time!

Once these last copies are gone, they won’t be restocked.

If you enrolled after school picture day—great news! You had your photo taken and you’re included in the yearbook.

Our yearbook also features highlights from events throughout the school year, so there’s something for everyone to look back on.

We encourage all new students to order a yearbook

and keep those memories forever!
