First Grade Tour of Betsy Ross May 22nd

Dear Eisenhower Families,

On Wednesday, May 22nd, our first grade students will be going with their class to take a tour of Betsy Ross School. After the tour is completed, our first grade students will be joining the 8th grade sendoff parade. We are looking forward to this exciting opportunity for our first graders. Our first grade Eisenhower students will take a short bus ride over to Ross for the event. If you would prefer that your child not ride the bus and remain at Eisenhower, please contact me at llambatos@d23.org or at (847)870-5040.

On Friday, May 17th, Eisenhower will be hosting our annual Young Athlete's Day Field Day Event. Throughout this school year, we have been practicing different skills that children will be able to show off on this day. Skills that we have worked on include: balancing, running, jumping, throwing, catching, kicking, and striking. The children have also been working in groups and practicing being a leader in their physical education class. The Young Athletes Day will be a great finish to all the hard work the children have put in throughout the school year. It will be a wonderful day for your children to be able to showcase all of their abilities and newfound motor skills for you! We will also have student volunteers from MacArthur Middle School running the stations and helping your children throughout the day. Your child will receive a snack, as well as a certificate and ribbon for their participation. Your child will also receive a t-shirt for their participation in the program provided by District 23.

Hopefully, the Young Athletes Program has helped improve your child physically, developmentally, and socially, and we are looking forward to giving them the chance to show off their skills. We are very excited about your family’s participation in the Young Athletes Day! We are looking for volunteers to help run some of the stations and lead groups between stations. If you are interested in volunteering please fill out THIS form. If you should have any questions about our Young Athletes Day, the Young Athletes program, or Special Olympics, please contact Dana Goldstein at 847-870-5049/dgoldstein@d23.org or Chrystyna Sroka at 847-870-5580/csroka@d23.org. We look forward to seeing you on May 17th!

Sincerely,

Dana Goldstein/Kelley Kraus, P.E. Teacher/Adapted P.E. Coach, Luke Lambatos, Principal, Chrystyna Sroka, Assistant Superintendent for Special Education

With Volunteer Appreciation Week coming to its culmination, the staff at Eisenhower want to take time to thank all of our PTO and parent room helper volunteers who tirelessly, throughout the year, work and promote family events,

classroom parties, and, most importantly, help in the form of copying materials, art in the classroom presentations, station activity facilitators, reader parents, and the list goes on. Whether it is making sure just the right type of game or craft will engage the children during a Halloween, Winter Break, or Valentine’s Day party, our volunteers are simply comforted in the fact that they have added to a child’s school experience. Eisenhower would not be the same school if it were not for our parent volunteers and active PTO. Their organizational skills and well-planned out events allow all of our students and parents to feel part of a greater IKE experience and community. Giving of themselves is simply

something the volunteers do all the time and is what makes them so special in the lives of their own families and the larger D23 family they have helped to shape.

Have a Wonderful Weekend,

Your Eisenhower Family

Hello, Eisenhower Parents,

As the end of the school year is approaching, we need your child to complete a few tasks before we collect their district-issued iPads for the summer. Next school year, your child will be getting the same district-issued iPad back, however, we may need to complete some maintenance on it over the summer.

Please read through this message carefully and help your child complete the ‘At Home’ tasks before iPad Collection on Thursday, May 23rd.

At School:

  • Wipe down the outside of the protective case
  • Back-up all notes, projects, and photos/videos to Google Drive

At Home:

  • Back-up files from any apps not completed at school that you want to save.
  • Review with your child the overall condition of the iPad, case, and charger.

Note: We will not be collecting charging cords and bricks for Kindergarten or 1st graders, only the iPad with the district-issued case. Although we will not be collecting chargers, please check that your child has a working iPad charger. If not, you will need to replace it. Replacement charger bricks and cords may be purchased anywhere chargers are sold. The box must say “Made for iPad.”

If you are NOT returning next school year, please turn in your charger on your collection day.

If during collection the tech department deems an iPad or accessory damaged, students will be given a paper notification. Please be sure to check your child’s folder on May 23rd. Payments should be made by Tuesday, May 28th.

  • Online via Web Store
  • Cash or check (payable to Prospect Heights School District 23) may be dropped off at the Eisenhower front office. Payments made after Tuesday, May 28th may be dropped off at the Administration Building. Please include the student’s first and last name on the payment.

Thank you for your support!

Early Childhood

News

Early childhood is finishing up their study on gardening. Students have explored how different plants grow. We have measured the heights of real and fake flowers using different manipulatives and compared how our classroom and school plants have grown. Students made their own flowers using a variety of shapes. We have been practicing our 1:1 counting skills and number recognition by adding beads or leaves for numbered flowers. Students also learned about symmetry through matching identical halves of butterflies and then creating their own using paint and pressing the wings together.

Kindergarten

News

This week in kindergarten the children have finished up their iReady math assessment. They kids are also taking their addition problems to the next level, by working on word problems. This allows them to find the numbers in a sentence, build the problem and find the answer.

First Grade

News

Students have begun a new unit in math that introduces shapes and their attributes, as well as measurement. Students will learn to describe shapes and put them together. They will break shapes into equal parts. They will also work on comparing and measuring lengths. Have your child use math vocabulary to describe shapes and lengths.

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
