Eisenhower Eagle Express

"Engage ALL students in experiences that inspire EACH to grow as learners, individuals, and community members."

August 23rd, 2024

Dear Eisenhower Families

With the first week of school already underway, I just wanted to take a few moments to discuss our Home-School Partnership. We look forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming Parent Night on Thursday, August 29th at 6:00 pm. Please use the front lot, rear circle loop lot, and the Park District lot along Camp McDonald Rd. We will provide additional parking in our front lot loop. For your own safety and those driving, please do not park on Schoenbeck Rd. Also, whether it is signing up on Seesaw, following us on Facebook, Twitter/"X", volunteering in your child's classroom, helping our PTO with outstanding events, attending parent night and parent-teacher conferences, we want you to always feel welcome and able to contribute to our school community efforts and your child's growth & learning.

One example of our Home-School Partnership is our variety of family engagement events that we have for our families. If you would like to volunteer for one of these opportunities please contact me at (847) 870-5040 or llambatos@d23.org

When you have a moment, please review our PBIS "IKE PATH" behavior expectations matrix below. This matrix works to support teaching students expected behaviors that create a respectful, responsible and safe learning environment. You will also notice images of our new classroom friends that will be joining the IKE Eagle in promoting friendship, helpfulness, kindness, positivity, and teamwork! If you see your child with a bracelet that has one of these animal characters on it, you will know that they demonstrated this character trait in class. It is the job of us all to ensure that the children develop both academically and social-emotionally. A healthy growth mindset helps to support everyone's development.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We just want to take a moment to review arrival and dismissal procedures.

*All Bus Riders will Enter and Exit from our Front Doors to the Front Lot.

*All Car Riders will Enter and Exit from our Back Library Doors to the Back Circle Lot.

AM Early Childhood, AM Kindergarten, Full Day Kindergarten and First Grade students being dropped off will be able to enter the building at 7:40 AM.

AM Early Childhood students will dismiss at 10:45 AM.

PM Early Childhood car rider students will dismiss at 2:25 PM.

AM Kindergarten students will dismiss at 10:45 AM.

PM Kindergarten back library doors will be able to enter the back library doors at 11:40 AM.

PM/Full Day Kindergarten & First Grade car riders will dismiss at 2:25 PM.

In order to prevent traffic jams and frustration with pickup capacity, we ask that parents please wait in line through the rectangular park district lot along Camp McDonald Rd.

Drivers will be able to utilize the park district lot as an “off the street option” for waiting for pick-up, minimizing the volume and time of cars waiting on Camp McDonald Rd.

Car traffic may only enter the circle lot while heading westbound on Camp McDonald.

No left turn will be allowed.

We ask that Early Childhood Parents pick up at 2:20 PM and that Kindergarten and First Grade Parents wait until 2:25 or even 2:30 PM to begin lining up. This should help to reduce the number of cars arriving at the same time and expedite pick-up.

Just a reminder, a parent or guardian must be present for all Early Childhood, Kindergarten, and First Grade students to get off the school bus.

Transportation Procedures

To find out the whereabouts of your student’s bus, call First Student at (847) 541-0220 and ask for the dispatcher.

Due to time constraints, buses will not return to a bus stop when students miss the bus or an adult (when required) is not present to receive the student. Students will be returned to their home school and parents/guardians will need to pick up their child from the school. The bus will not return.

Changes to bus routes require a minimum of 3 working days to be implemented.

No changes to bus routes will be processed during the first 2 weeks of school.

What if there is a change in my child's transportation arrangements? Please send a note with your child or call the school office at (847) 870-3875. Without a note, we will send your child home on the school bus if that is how your child normally goes home.

All children who are to be excused from school prior to the regular end of the school day must "check out" through the school office. Parents are asked to send a note ahead of time, rather than call, to request an early release for their children. Parents are required to come into the school office to sign their children out for early dismissal. District policy does not allow any adult to go directly to the classroom.

Technology Support

You hear a lot from us about directions to go to your PowerSchool Parent Portal (LINK) to view important information. (Do note, that this is not the same as the PowerSchool app.) Please see the chart below to see the cadence of when as a parent there are important items in the Portal that require your attention and action.

For Wednesday, at 9 a.m., schedules for the school year will be viewable in the Parent Portal! See the August row below!

Need help with a program, an app, or the District-issued iPad itself (which comes home in August or September, depending on grade level)? To quote an old Radioshack slogan, “You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!” The teacher is the best person with which to start. If help is still needed, Sullivan and MacArthur students should submit a ticket using the Incident IQ app. Eisenhower and Ross families should either put in the ticket on behalf of their student or work with the teacher, who would put in a ticket on behalf of the student. We also have our Tech Help Site, HERE, which has resources and “How-to” guides. If you find yourself needing more immediate support, email us at “techhelp@d23.org.” Together, we are #PROUD2BD23!”

Happy First Week of School!

Century Book Club

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

Book Club PDF 1

Book Club PDF 2

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
