Eisenhower Parent Night

Wednesday, August 30th

6:00 PM

Dear Eisenhower Families

I first want to start by saying that we appreciate everyone's effort and patience to ensure a safe and orderly student drop-off and pick up in our back circle loop. Just a reminder, we are not allowed to park cars along Camp McDonald Rd. For everyone's safety, we need everyone to go through the circle lot.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming Parent Night on Wednesday, August 30th at 6:00 PM. I know our teachers and specialists can't wait to meet everyone. Please use the auxiliary Park District lot along Camp McDonald Rd. for additional parking.

Our grade level teams will be Seesawing home videos reviewing the curriculum standards your child will be learning this school year.

During parent night, your child's classroom teacher will be conducting a meet and greet to share more about classroom volunteering opportunities (parent reader, center/station helper, field trip volunteers, etc.,) the classroom culture, routines/procedures, and answer any questions you may have.

At around 6:30 PM, weather permitting, we will adjourn to our blacktop area where all of our families will have an opportunity to meet their neighbors and all of our staff members. It will be a good time to start putting names with faces and looking at setting up some playdates with your larger Eisenhower/D23 family!

Some of you may have noticed the update to our website last Friday. First, thanks to the PTO, our Community Relations Committee, and students and staff for all the helpful feedback on this important Strategic Plan goal. In response, we have added intuitive, easier-to-use features to our website, and we have streamlined the location of items to make the website more mobile friendly. Please watch the video below for an overview of these updates!

Also, over the next week, we will be conducting a series of safety drills with our first responders. Please do not be alarmed if you see police or fire department vehicles in front of our building. Our partner, the Prospect Heights Police Department, makes daily visits to check on our building's well-being.

We are looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your family,

Your Eisenhower Family

As children, we usually associate school only with academics. However, as adults, we realize lifelong learning is more about how we engage in the social world around us and how we manage our emotions and relationships. This ability to control, manage, and regulate our behavior in order to be a productive member of our family, community, nation, and world relies on having appropriate and consistent learned behaviors modeled for us. In essence, it is our duty to teach appropriate behavioral expectations the same as we teach academic learning objectives. Our goal is to work with your child and help teach him/her appropriate ways to interact with his/her peers and adults in an engaging, positive, and safe learning environment. Developing appropriate social skills takes time and being consistent. More importantly, it gives us essential personal and group problem-solving skills to overcome adversity, stay productive, and have a positive outlook on life. Everyday, after I have announced the children's birthdays and the day's events, I remind the students to be friend to others and to make themselves and those around them a wonderful day by being respectful, responsible, and safe in all that they do. If there are any students who are not demonstrating appropriate behavior, they will be retaught the appropriate behavioral expectation, and, if that does not remedy the situation, they could possibly receive additional support through a variety of tiered interventions. The most import aspect of the IKE Path is reinforcing the behaviors we desire in seeing displayed. As with all things in life, positive emotions are evoked through the power of praise and redeeming feelings. The more we model and praise the resulting appropriate/expected behaviors, the more we will see our children growing up to become more empathetic individuals who can make better decisions for themselves and those around them.

We continue to use the PowerSchool Parent Portal (LINK) as a one-stop place for important information, including student schedules, report cards, and fees owed. We recommend all fees are paid through PowerSchool on a mobile web browser or on the computer. If you need help setting up your PowerSchool Parent account, please contact your child's office.

“Need help with a program, an app, or the iPad itself? To quote an old Radio Shack slogan, “You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers!” Sullivan and MacArthur students should submit a ticket using the Incident IQ app. Eisenhower and Ross families should either put in the ticket on behalf of their student or work with the teacher, who would put in a ticket on behalf of the student. We also have our Tech Help Site, HERE, which has resources and “How-to” guides. If you find yourself needing more immediate support, email us at “techhelp@d23.org.” Together, we are #PROUD2BD23!”

Century Book Club

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
