Parent-Teacher Conferences

Dear Eisenhower Families

Our November 2nd and 9th Parent-Teacher Conferences are our first true opportunity to sit down and reflect upon each individual child’s growth. Just as important as earning grades, we are able to discuss their social-emotional progress as well as their classroom participation and level of engagement. Even though assessment data, homework, and in-class assignments play crucial roles in understanding each and every child’s learning development, we always want to make sure that our conversations focus around several fundamental questions that you might want to consider asking:

1) How is my child doing at developing positive interactions with

classmates and forming friendships?

2) Does my child like to participate in whole class and small group

activities/discussions?

3) What are some additional strategies that we can reinforce at home to

help our child attain a specific concept(s) and/or skill(s) development?

As we foster these conversations, you will find your relationship with your own child’s confidence in learning growing. Equally as valuable is the insight it gives our dedicated staff in continuing to nurture your child’s path of lifelong learning.

Also, please remember to read with your child for at least 20-minutes each night. While reading or even sharing conversations, remember to introduce or substitute unfamiliar vocabulary words for everyday common words. Enhance your conversations by speaking to your child with robust, enriching words. Not only will you find them developing more expressive language in the process, which will help to facilitate greater understanding of their social-emotional well-being, but you will unknowingly be doing yourself a far greater favor for your relationship with them when their later adolescent years are upon you.

Parent-Teacher Conferences November 2nd & 9th

We are looking forward to seeing everyone in person at our upcoming parent-teacher conferences on November 2nd and 9th. If for some reason you are unable to attend, please contact your child's teacher about setting up a virtual conference.

Halloween Reminders:

The Eisenhower, Ross, Sullivan annual Halloween Costume Parades will be on Tuesday, October 31st.

The morning early childhood and morning kindergarten classes will parade outside at 10:00 A.M.

The Eisenhower school parade for PM early childhood & kindergarten, full-day kindergarten, and 1st grade classes will begin at 12:00 P.M.

If you wish to view the parades, please assemble along the parade routes.

*Eisenhower will parade from the rear of the school, along the sidewalks, and back into school through the front doors.

Every spot is a good location for pictures!

AM and PM early childhood and AM and PM kindergarten children should wear their costumes to school that day.

Full day kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th grade students should bring their costumes to school.

Should the weather be cold or rainy, parents may view the parade in the gym. The Eisenhower morning class parties will begin right after the morning early childhood and kindergarten parade. The afternoon class parties will begin at 1:15 P.M.  As you think about your child’s costume for our parade, please keep in mind that schools have a heightened and serious concern about students who bring weapons to school. The concern extends to toy weapons - including toy guns, squirt guns, cap guns, martial arts devices, play swords, and knives. Do not allow your child to include any weapons with the costume they bring to wear in the parade or to bring toy weapons to school at any time during the school year. Also, your child’s costume should not include any blood/gore. These guidelines by no means should curtail the fun your child can have at the parade.

Early Childhood

Early childhood started their farm unit this week. We discussed who lives on a farm and what is grown on a farm. The students helped transform our housekeeping areas into a farm and have been enjoying “working” on the farm. We also enjoyed creating some fun experiments such as sink or float with an egg, making butter, and pumpkin salt painting.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten launched their first unit of Mystery Science. The Animal Secrets unit focuses on animal behaviors that allow them to survive in nature. We are so excited for the opportunity to take all of our kindergarteners to the River Trails Nature Center to observe the animals they have been learning about.

First Grade

First grade students have been learning about light and sound this week. They have been exploring how materials vibrate and how vibrating materials can make sounds. They also investigated light and used their skills to create a simple device that allowed them to communicate messages across a distance.

District Updates

Helping our Children Process War and Conflicts

Our thoughts and prayers are with those at home and abroad who have been impacted by the war in Israel and Gaza. The disturbing reports and images of horrific acts of terrorism, violence, hostage taking, and senseless loss of innocent life are heartbreaking and we mourn the suffering of all those impacted. Many of our staff, students, and families are personally impacted not only by the events in the Middle East but also by the ongoing war in Ukraine and other areas of conflict around the world. We stand in support and solidarity with all of them.

It is our mission and responsibility to ensure that our schools remain safe spaces for all students and staff, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity. Our strength as a school community comes from the richness and diversity of our students, families, and staff and we are at our core a caring and resilient community.

As a community, we provide strength and comfort to all those in distress and support our children as they work to make sense of their world in scary and uncertain times. Here are some tools you may find useful as you engage with your children to help them form some understanding of the serious and complex events unfolding around the world.

As always, our entire staff are here to help support your child if they are feeling anxious or in any way affected by these situations. Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school office if you or your child need support during this difficult time.

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
