Thank You for Our D23PTO & Family Support!

Dear Eisenhower Families

We want to thank our D23 PTO for our upcoming winter party room parent support. The children always look forward to partaking in all of the fun and exciting crafts and games. In addition, our D23 PTO actively fundraises for our grade level field trips, plans family fun and dining night out events, and coordinates our longstanding tradition of volunteers for our AVIC (Art Volunteers in the Classroom) which provides our students additional opportunities to explore the fine arts.

We also want to thank all of our families for contributing to our Helping Hands holiday gift card drive for needy families. In the immortal words of Charles Dickens,

“We choose this time, because it is a time,

of all others, when want is keenly felt,

and abundance rejoices.”

Your kindness and giving will go a long way in making the holidays merry and bright for many of our families. We also want to thank Mrs. Abra Zaveduk, our school social worker, for organizing this wonderful program in conjunction with the school social workers at Ross, Sullivan, and MacArthur.  The holiday giving program allows all four of our schools to work together to support students and families across all grade levels.

Teachers will be collecting all student iPads before students leave for Winter Break. We are pushing out special wallpaper to students the week of December 18th to prepare them for leaving their iPads. See below for the fun wallpaper our teachers and the Tech Department created together to make this fun for students!

Collecting the iPads will allow the Tech Department to ensure all devices are working properly and are connected to the device management system. This also gives our teachers, before and after break, an opportunity to review with students safe and expected use of the district-owned iPads. For our students, this supports our goal of truly making this a break from school. They have worked hard through Trimester I and starting Trimester II, and as we all need breaks, we know it is healthy and needed for our students to get one too!

With that, we need your help with two things to prepare for the iPad collection:

1. Students should have their iPads updated to 17.1.2. Please work with your student to update the iPad this weekend. The iPad should be connected to WiFi and power. This will greatly help to ensure iPads are ready for State testing after Winter Break!

2. If you will be leaving early for Winter Break, please have your student leave the iPad with the teacher.

Eisenhower will collect iPads on Wednesday, December 20th.

Thanks for your help and support so we can make sure students have the tools they need to learn after Winter Break!

Have a Wonderful Weekend,

Your Eisenhower Family

Early Childhood

In early childhood, we are finishing up our music and movement study and are beginning our study of boxes. We have enjoyed reading books about the many objects we can turn boxes into. The students have brainstormed many ideas. Next week, we will start turning those boxes into the many interesting designs they have come up with. We also had a great deal of fun this past week making musical instruments, building letters,

and playing musical letters.

Kindergarten

Our kindergarteners are well into their month long study about gingerbread. They have already read three variations of the story, including The Gingerbread Man, Gingerbread Boy and Gingerbread Girl. They have begun comparing and contrasting similarities and differences. We are looking forward to our boat launches in hopes of saving the gingerbread man from being eaten in the next few weeks.

First Grade

First grade students are learning about nature and cycles. They have learned about weather and seasonal cycles in our literacy curriculum. This complements our science unit from the past trimester which addressed cycles that occur in the day and night sky. It is wonderful seeing the students make connections between our literacy and science curriculums. Ask your child about which cycle they have found the most interesting.

Century Book Club Readers!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
