December 20th, 2024

Dear Eisenhower Families,

As the holiday season, in all of its forms and faiths, quickly approaches with the change in weather, we want you to know that the staff at Eisenhower wishes you and yours a wonderful holiday season. As the children look forward to winter break and the joyous times ahead with family and friends, we would

like to remind you of the importance of sustaining your child’s schedule with maintaining nightly reading and any daily activities that involve increasing their exposure to comprehension, new vocabulary words and math skills. The holidays will be here soon enough and all of their anxious hope and excitement of being with family and friends are enough to warm any heart as we begin to see the temperature drop. After winter break, we appreciate your support with ensuring that the children are physically present and dressed in their warmest winter gear.

With this in mind, please remember to have your child appropriately attired with winter boots, coat, hat, gloves, and scarf. Students will be outdoors for recess unless wind chill conditions reach below 10 degrees or icing occurs with changing conditions. Snow pants are required for playing in the snow.

Have a Happy Holidays and we will see you in the New Year!

Update from the Nurse’s Office

Some of you may have noticed some updated procedures in the nurse's office regarding medication management in your school. These procedures further promote the health and safety of students in compliance with the Illinois School Code and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. The complete procedures will be sent to impacted families as well as shared through upcoming principal newsletters. A few of the updates include:

  • Medication will no longer be accepted by the school office staff, nor through your child’s backpack.
  • Medication will need to be dropped off through an appointment with the nurse.
  • All controlled medications will need to be counted by the parent in front of the nurse, and then counted by the nurse in front of the parent, and then also counted by a third person (another nurse or administrator) in front of the parent. This is why an appointment is necessary for medication drop off.

Your school nurse will be reaching out to connect with parents who are impacted by these changes. If you have any questions, please reach out to your child’s school nurse.

Early Childhood, Kindergarten and First Grade News

Early Childhood would like to thank all of our families for your

wonderful support at last night's winter concert. Also, our early childhood students are learning about their emotions through their Second Step lessons. They are practicing identifying their emotions throughout the day and using the 'Feelings Buddies' to talk about their feelings.

Kindergarten has wrapped up their Second Step lessons on how to identify others feelings. They will now be learning how to complete acts of kindness with and for others.

First grade has also been working on identifying feelings in ourselves and others by looking at faces, bodies and what is happening around them. Have your child practice sharing how they are feeling and identifying how others in the family might be feeling by using these clues!

The Principal's Century Book Club is a listing of children who read multiples of one hundred books during their years at Eisenhower School.

*Books can be read by parents or enjoy a shared reading with your child. Take turns, use voices, and, most importantly, have fun!

Remember to ask plenty of comprehension questions and discuss new vocabulary words!

Your child’s name will be added to the front foyer wall when they read their first one hundred books. Their name continues to be added with each 100 books they read.

Students will also receive a special prize from the office.

Books should be at the child’s reading level, and left to parent’s discretion.

Below, is a link to a form that you can download and print.

You may also list the books on a sheet of paper.

Setting aside 20-minutes a night for family reading with or to your child makes a world of difference.
