Seventy Miles in Hell
By Caitlin Dickerson
Photographs by Lynsey Addario
The Atlantic's September issue, titled "Seventy Miles in Hell" documents migrants' efforts traveling through the Darien Gap, a once-considered-impassable region connecting Central and South America. Now hundreds of thousands of migrants are risking treacherous terrain, violence, hunger, and disease to travel through the jungle to the United States.
If you do nothing else today ... read this article to get a first-hand impression of the bravery and danger immigrants are willing to endure to reach America!
Amna Nawaz discussed the situation with writer Caitlin Dickerson on The PBS News Hour. Click the video to the right to view.

Spacewalking Astronaut
The latest issue of Air & Space Magazine featured Michael López-Alegría, also known as “L-A,” is one of America’s most experienced astronauts. He has completed six space missions so far and commanded three of them, spending 296 days (about 9 and a half months) in space. He shares the current United States record for spacewalks with 10 total. And he isn’t finished yet.

29th Annual Kennedy-King Dinner
VA 8th Congressional District
September 12, 2024
Representative Don Beyer (VA-8) opened this sold out event that featured Congresswoman Veronica Escobar (TX-16). Escobar – who had the honor of nominating Representative Hakeem Jeffries (NY-8) for Speaker of the House – made history as the first woman elected to represent El Paso, and the first of two Latinas from Texas to serve in Congress! A rising leader in the Democratic party, Congresswoman Escobar was elected as one of three co-chairs of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC). As Co-Chair of DPCC, she is the only Texan in leadership in both the House and the Senate and in both parties.
