¡Ya no es lo que era!

It's not what it used to be!

We need to prepare for more of the horrors we saw during the first Trump term. Undocumented immigrants will be targeted by ICE where they work, where they live, and yes, outside of churches where they worship! Families will most certainly be separated. Children will come home from school to find Padre, and even Madre, gone. Trump has already written the future by appointing the same people who did this during his last term.

Trump Appointments

Tom Homan

Border Czar

Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), was appointed as “border czar”, a role that will likely be involved in Trump’s plan for mass deportations of millions of undocumented migrants. Homan also served in Trump’s first term—acting as ICE director from January 2017 to June 2018— and played a role in Trump’s crackdown on immigration, as one of the architects of the administration’s controversial child separation policy. The role will not require Senate confirmation.

Stephen Miller

Deputy Chief of Staff

Stephen Miller will be White House deputy chief of staff for policy. He is expected to take on a leading role writing and implementing Trump's immigration agenda, which includes plans for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. He's known best for his role as a lead author of some of the Trump administration's strongest immigration plans in his first administration, including the highly controversial zero tolerance policies that led to children being separated from their parents.

MSNBC Films presents

Separated

Saturday, December 7, 2024

Separated played for a week at the IFC Center in New York, but NBC and MSNBC delayed wider theatrical distribution and airing on MSNBC until after the election.

MSNBC Films presents "Separated," an NBC News Studios production from Oscar®-winning filmmaker Errol Morris. Based on the best-selling book by Jacob Soboroff, the documentary examines the first Trump administration’s family separation and immigration policies and the ongoing, years-long fight to reunite children.

The film details the horrors of the Trump “zero tolerance” immigration policy, under which thousands of immigrant children were forcibly separated from their parents after they crossed the southern U.S. border, part of the administration’s broader crackdown on immigration. The cruel policy was enforced as early as July 2017, initially without public acknowledgment by Trump officials. It was ultimately rescinded amid widespread outrage, but it continues to impact the families who were targeted, and about 1,000 children remain effectively orphaned years later, with authorities and rights groups still unable to locate their parents. Morris says “the most appalling part of the policy” was the lack of record-keeping. “OK, let’s separate the children, but let’s not actually keep a record of how to ever reunite them. Let’s separate them for good. Let’s just create orphans, abandon children,” he says.

Democracy Now! is a viewer-supported independent, global weekday news hour anchored by award-winning journalists Amy Goodman and Juan González. The show is broadcast on more than 1,500 TV, radio and internet stations. Stream the show live Monday through Friday at 8 am.
