If you are looking for summer employment, Roberts Family Development Center is actively recruiting for our Freedom School, Servant Leader Interns positions. The Servant Leader Intern summer position is a full time - 40 hour a week position for 6 weeks. Roberts Family Development Center in partnership with Children's Defense Fund Freedom School, will offer a 6-week summer enrichment program to empower children to excel and believe in their ability to make a difference in themselves, their families, communities, country and world with hope, education and action. This academic summer program is based in reading literacy and designed to boost a student's motivation to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities."

Scholarship Opportunities

Hispanic Scholarship Fund


Deadline: February 15, 2023, 5:00 PM PT


Eligibility:

  • Must be of Hispanic heritage
  • U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, or DACA
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students
  • Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the U.S., for the 2023-2024 academic year
  • Submit the FAFSA or state-based financial aid forms (if applicable)

Powering Futures Scholarship Opportunity


We’re proud to support local students again this year with “Powering Futures,” our annual college scholarship program. We’ll award up to $60,000 for the next generation of leaders. Scholarships will range from $1,000 to $4,000 each for up to 21 students. To apply, students must be a SMUD customer or have a SMUD customer as a legal guardian. Awards are based on merit and financial need, with preference given to students with a major that’s relevant to SMUD. Scholarships also include a paid SMUD internship for eligible students.

HSI Showcase - Save The Date!



The University of California, Davis is excited to announce that we will be hosting the 2023 Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Showcase in partnership with the UC-HSI Initiative* on Thursday, March 23, 2023, and we cordially invite you to join us!

 

The showcase will be an opportunity to take a deeper look at UC Davis’ evolution as an emerging HSI in an immersive day of discovery and community.


You will learn about the history, infrastructure, successes and challenges the campus has encountered in our longstanding commitment to serve Chicanx/Latinx students, and be able to share your own experiences. We will collectively engage on what it means to be a “student-serving” UC-HSI campus.


Presentations will include an overview of the UCD Pathway to Success, Mentors for Leadership, Opportunities for R1 HSIs, Regional HSI collaborations and Global Education.

This institute will run from April 14 – 16 at UC San Diego

This special leadership institute focuses on bringing in students who are often not represented in the business schools to provide them the following:

Imani Clinic Winter 2023 Interpreter Application Cycle


Imani Clinic is now accepting applications for interpreter volunteers this Winter! We are looking for Spanish-speaking UCD or Sac State students interested in helping provide interpreting and healthcare services to the predominantly black Oak Park community! In collaboration with Center for African Diaspora Student Success (CADSS), Cross Cultural Center (CCC), and Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), we hosted a mixer centering Afro-Latinx community and providing networking with other student and staff. Thank you to all who were able to join us!

Carnitas & Citations Event!

Thank you to everyone who attended! Our guest speaker, Librarian Nancy Wallace, gave a wonderful presentation on citations while our students enjoyed a delicious plate of carnitas.
