Celebrating 100+ Years of Groundbreaking Leadership: The El Paso Chamber Woman’s Department

The El Paso Chamber proudly celebrates the enduring and powerful legacy of our Woman's Department, which marked its momentous 100th anniversary last year. Founded in 1924, this groundbreaking group holds the distinction of being the first Women's Department established by a Chamber of Commerce in the United States. For over a century, these dedicated leaders have been a powerful force for civic good, initiating and executing numerous projects that have profoundly enriched the quality of life in El Paso, from culture and education to the founding of the El Paso County Historical Society. This history of bold action set an unmatched precedent for women's involvement in shaping regional economic and social prosperity.

Today, this tradition of advocacy and empowerment continues to reinforce the vital role women play in the Borderplex economy. The modern iteration of this pioneering work remains committed to providing crucial mentorship, fostering dynamic connections, and ensuring that women in business have the resources and voice necessary to lead our region forward. This year, the Grace Chope Foundation of the Woman's Department presented the Woman's Club of El Paso with a check for $50,000, fulfilling a matching grant in honor of the Woman's Department's 100th anniversary. This centennial milestone is not just a look back, but a strong reminder of the deep impact that committed leaders have had, and will continue to have, on El Paso’s success. We salute the original trailblazers and look forward to supporting the next century of groundbreaking work.
