Hello, Puesta del Sol Families!  
Circling back to our BIG GIVE fundraiser we did this past September: Thank you again to everyone that turned in the yellow envelopes and to those that donated through THE BIG GIVE or corporate matching. If you had planned to delay your donation until a later date this is a friendly reminder that it's not too late to donate! Anything helps us reach our goal. We raised close to $80,000 in our first year of a new fundraiser. We are still far short of what we hoped to raise so we can continue to fund our SIX amity interns, the biggest percentage of our budget. The money we raise also helps support our teachers through extra funds for classroom books and materials and teacher and school grants! Classroom experiences like the Toymaker Workshop, Kindergarten Beach Lab, and the 4 th  grade Pacific Marine Research experience are also funded by the PTA.

Make Up Snow Days!
snow-shovel.jpg Last day of school is now June 21 for the 2018-19 school year.
 
One additional makeup day was added, TODAY Friday, March 15. The day was originally a planned professional development day for teachers, but all students are expected to attend school today.

Additional days could still be added pending approval of the BSD waiver request. Check the  Bellevue School District website for updated information.
PTA After School Programs:  Make-up Classes
T o adjust for classes missed during the snow closures, we are "shifting" the end of Session 2 out and shortening Session 3. Make-up classes are as follows:

Flamenco: Monday 3/25 and 4/1

Fiesta Latina: Tuesday 3/26 and 4/2

Bomba del Sol: 
This Friday 3/15  (last Session 2 Bomba class is 3/22,  no class 3/29 or 4/5 )

Session 3 will now begin April 15 and end on May 18 with the International Festival performance. Please note: there will be regular classes AND Dress Rehearsal the week of May 13.  

Registration for Session 3 will open on Monday, March 25.

Register Now! Science Fair is Almost Here!
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, March 27, 2019 from 6pm-8pm in the Puesta del Sol Gym and Library.

It's not too late to start a science fair project for this year's Science Fair. Use our online resources to help pick a topic and get started today. All participants must register online, and registration is open until March 20th. As in years past, having one parent or guardian volunteer before or during the event is mandatory. Trifold boards are also available for purchase though the Science Fair registration page.

5th Grade Legacy Project Bake Sale
March 27, 2019 6pm - 8pm @ the Science Fair!

Spanish Immersion Through the Arts (SITA) to Sponsor Workshop Next Week
Spanish Immersion through the Arts (SITA) will sponsor a school wide art workshop with Mexican Artist Adriana Morales next week. SITA is one of our wonderful PTA sponsored Educational Enhancement Programs. This means it is fully funded by generous donations to the PTA. Sra. Morales, a native Spanish speaker and talented artist, will visit each classroom to work with students next week. She will guide students to create art work based on Latin American textile design.

Artwork from next week's workshop will be on display during Art Fest, May 1st.

Thank you for your support of programs like SITA to help enhance our students' education in a rich and meaningful way.

Accepting Host Family Applications for 2019-2020
It's that time of year again!  We are looking for 18+ host families for our interns in the 2019-2020 school-year. As a host family you gain a new, unique friendship and learning experience by welcoming an intern from a Spanish speaking country into your home. Additionally, your child will benefit from extra practice and help with their Spanish language skills.  

We are adding some flexibility to the hosting duration with the addition of a half-year option. This will allow us to make better family/intern matches as well as potentially improve the experience for both interns and families.

All applications for the 2019-2020 academic year must be received by April 26, 2019.
However, we will continue to collect applications until we achieve our goal and/or establish a wait-list.

Spotlight: 
Spanish Immersion Through the Arts (SITA) Sharing Music with Marco Cortes

We were very happy to enjoy a day of music and reading en Español with the Kindergarten classes. Our guest Marco Cortes is a musician and composer from Chile, well known around the Northwest. He was happy to come to Puesta del Sol as he was one of the persons involved in creating the song for our school. Our kids had a great time singing along and learning about the different instruments he had brought to class. We appreciate that he left one CD for each classroom so the kids can keep enjoying his Spanish music.

Critical Need
Volunteer Need - Stage Manager

Help make the backstage magic happen! Growth opportunity to become Stage Director in 2020! This role supports and shadows our current stage director with the intent of taking over the stage director role in future years. The role includes planning and executing the entire run of show, from act order to overseeing the backstage crew with lights, props, music, etc.  Short commitment, including only a few planning sessions in May and two "show" days May 15th and 18th. No experience necessary!

Volunteer Coordinator Needed
Help Wanted! Actually, help is wanted to organize our help wanted. The PTA can really use someone to help us track our volunteer needs for all the amazing programs we sponsor. Your role would be to notify our newsletter, Facebook, and website teams of current volunteer openings, to review various volunteer reports to locate volunteers, and to answer and redirect inquiries about volunteer positions from possible volunteers. Most of this position can be done from your phone/tablet/computer and can also be done in evenings and on weekends if you aren't available during the day. Please help us help our students!

 The PTA is looking for more assistance in keeping current information on our Facebook page. Help us post information about PTA activities and Bellevue School District updates as well as information from some of our PTA partners like Bellevue Schools Foundation and Washington State PTA. The average time commitment is 1-2 hours per week, depending on what's happening in our community. Help us get the word out!
