Dates: Monday, October 24th and Tuesday, October 25th.

Gifts of $100 or more will be matched (up to $15,000).
Did you know that private funding of our schools has become a necessity? Our State has failed to fully fund the basic elements of a 21st century education?

Last year, the Bellevue Schools Foundation helped fund, among other programs, the Kindergarten Readiness Toolkit for Puesta del Sol, which meant that 100 toolkits, one for each of the new kindergarten students, were provided to help ready the children and to drive equity.
Reflections Entries are Due Today!
Reflections  is a national art competition that is sponsored by the PTA and is the first entry for the Academic Challenge.  This year's theme is "What Is Your Story?" and entries can be made using multiple artful expressions (literature, film, visual art, photography, music and dance).

If you have not already turned in your child's entry, please make sure they are dropped off by 3:45 pm Monday, October 24th in the school office. No late entries can be accepted.

Please see the Reflections web page for the two required forms (official entry form and short online registration), literature submission instructions and common disqualification reasons.

Fun Fact:  The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the 2nd largest country in Africa. Within the DRC is the oldest national park in Africa, the Congo's Virunga National Park, and is home to rare mountain gorillas, lions, and elephants.

October's Special Itinerary (SI) is Australia! Check out the SI bulletin boards in the cafeteria and library each month for great visual displays which contain the answers to the activities. Copies of the SI are at the bulletin boards or you can print them out online. At each monthly Check Day, there will be a small prize for completing SI projects.
Library News and Reminders
Adult/Student Book Club - Once again 4th and 5th grade students are invited to participate in the Evening Book Club with an accompanying adult. Our first meeting will be on Monday, October 24th, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the library.  We meet once a month through March 27th.  In order to understand how a book club works from start to finish, students are encouraged to attend all 5 meetings. More information

Parent Reminder - Please make sure you keep Puesta del Sol Library books separate from the KCLS library.  If they are accidentally returned to KCLS it sometimes takes months for the book to make its way back to our library

Overdue books - Students with overdue or lost books may not continue to check out books until their books are either returned or the lost book is paid for.

Lost books - It is our District Library policy to give refunds for books that are lost and paid for, then found again, if the book cost is $18 or more.  The refunds are issued during the current year only, from September through the end of the school year.

Book Fair - THANK YOU to our wonderful Scholastic Book Fair chairmen for bringing us another great Book Fair!  Thank you to all parents who support our school library with your donations to our library and to Birthday Book Club.
Drama Club Registration Opens -  Tuesday, November 8  at 6:30 am
We're Having a Ball! A 50's Rock and Roll Cinderella Story is this year's Drama Club production! Registration is for 4th and 5th grade students only and costs $89 per student. Registration will be entirely online and will fill quickly!  The registration link will be live on the Drama Club web page

As there are only parts for 50 actors, registrations will be accepted on a first come/first serve basis and a waiting list will be assembled in the event there are over 50. Our goal is to create a positive experience for all!  While this is a considerable commitment, your child will be able to provide a list of conflicts prior to casting allowing the directors to note availability for rehearsals when casting. Questions? Email drama@puestadelsolpta.org.
