Case Study
A law firm approached RCM Health to review the healthcare costs and quality of care provided to an elderly couple in Winnipeg. This was a family with considerable wealth. The children were fighting about anything related to their care. The court mandated an elder care provider with a good reputation to manage the couple's care.
The law firm was concerned about the extremely high care costs, which totaled about $1.2 M per year for 2 years.
The law firm retained RCM Health to review the care costs and quality of care provided.
Our team dug into the details to review the bills and the clinical reporting provided.
In our review of costs, we discovered that the elder care manager was billing at $500 per hour for several different providers, including nurses, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists.
An occupational therapist might be paid $45 to $65 per hour, depending on their experience. This elder care manager was charging $500 per OT hour. The billing record was unclear about what type of provider was involved in the care.
RCM Health reviewed the quality of care provided against industry standards. The care was adequate but not exceptional at these exaggerated costs.
We put our report together for the courts, responsible for responding to the elder abuse in this case.
RCM Health is now geared up to provide formal reviews of the costs and quality of elder care.
Our mission at RCM Health is to prevent elder abuse and elder fraud for families throughout Canada.
