DENSITY COMING TO TACOMA
Various zoning changes that increase density across Tacoma went into effect Thursday as part of the city’s 2019 Amendment to its Comprehensive Plan.

Many areas originally zoned as single family neighborhoods will now allow for higher-density residences like townhomes and apartments. From the North End to Eastside, there was worry across the board from residents about how higher density would impact neighborhoods.

TOTAL EMPLOYMENT IS RISING IN THE SOUTH SOUND
Pierce County’s total employment is up again for the third month, with nearly 11K jobs added since June and continued gains expected through the year as holiday shopping picks up.

Demand for new hires is strong, but only one in five posted jobs meet Pierce County’s definition for family wages ($52,197).

Auburn, Washington is designated by the Veterans Day National Committee and the US Department of Veterans Affairs as a Regional Site for celebration of Veterans Day 2019.

Now in its 54th year, the parade has grown into one of the largest parades of its kind in the United States of America.

INVESTING IN MINORITY, WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES
Following the results of a 2018 disparity study  that found the  City of Tacoma  is under-utilizing many minority and women-owned businesses, the city is expanding its efforts to achieve equity in contracting and support of such businesses.

The first phase of the city’s efforts includes foundational improvements like increased technical assistance, improved compliance tracking, an increase of its contractor and supplier pool, migration to state certification lists, and working more closely with labor organizations.

RAINIER CONNECT TO OPERATE CLICK! NETWORK
T acoma Public Utility Board  today voted to adopt a resolution that allows Rainier Connect to operate the municipally owned Click! Network, as well as approving a surplus declaration of excess in the system not necessary for utility purposed.

The agreements give Rainier Connect the ability to use excess capacity over the Click! Network to provide video and broadband services, with the city retaining ownership of the network.
