ELECTION CONSIDERATIONS

Dear Frank,

There are several issues that campaigns have been focusing on. I will try to give some clarity to some of those issues. Some of those issues are intertwined.

INFLATION AND THE ECONOMY

This is a national issue where the state has limited control. However, the nation is watching Virginia. If they see the voters turning on Democrats and by extension Biden, many in both parties will turn away from the many policies that are driving inflation. Policies such as banning drilling for oil and gas as well as mandates of what you drive. Currently, because of the Northam energy policies, families are paying for electricity to pay for misguided green energy policies.

ABORTION

Millions of dollars are being spent to keep the public focused on abortion. I don’t blame the Democrats because they have nothing else to run on. They relied on fear mongering for years. Let’s break down the issue for 2023.

Most Democrats and Republicans agree that in the case of rape, incest, life of the mother, and fetal abnormalities there is little disagreement. Currently, at least 90% of the abortions occur in the first trimester. 5% occurs between 16-20 weeks, the period when the baby has a heartbeat and feels pain. Only 1% occur after the 21st week. Of those, in the first 15 weeks most are killed by a drug that is politely referred to as the ‘Plan B’ pill. There are not the votes needed to change this no matter who controls the General Assembly.

Therefore, women will act more quickly, and a very few might have to travel to Maryland or some other exotic location.

EDUCATION

Some of us want our schools to focus on traditional education, like teaching students to read as well as the basics of math. We want our history taught honestly, good, and bad without bias. We believe in fairness and treating all students equally.

Others are more focused not on equal opportunity, but rather on equity at the finish line, regardless of how hard the student works. Some of those same people believe that what happens at school should be hidden from parents. Whether young people are confused by social media or groomers in our schools, we should be on guard to them being led into transgender activities. Hiding that from parents is wrong. Assisting these young folks in getting medical treatment behind the backs of parents is evil.

Additionally, destroying girls’ sports by allowing males to play against them serves no purpose and takes opportunities away from girls. Most of these males are generally bigger and stronger. They now in some areas dominate some sports. Female swimmers are being driven away because they don’t want share dressing rooms and showers with those who claim to be transgender. High school volleyball players have been physically harmed. This is unacceptable.

TAXES

Governor Youngkin proposed tax cuts that would be permanent and would work to attract jobs to Virginia. This was based on higher tax collections from higher wages. The Democrats were determined to stand in the way. They insisted on a one-tax rebate. Rebates are nice but not as good as permanent cuts. Other growing states have figured this out; it is time we did.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

On a recent road trip my wife remarked that I had no sense of direction. I exclaimed, "Now where did that come from?
