Dear friends:

Happy Election Eve!

This will be quick. I'm trying to get my life together before heading to Baton Rouge on Wednesday (seriously) for a special legislative session to rewrite the entire tax code (yep). The chamber won't be a fun place to be on Wednesday, no matter what happens tomorrow.

(Which is KAMALA WINNING!)

I'm almost done with paying myself back - I'm down to the last $5000 my campaign account owes me/Chase - then I can stop bugging you. Please help a lady out.

It's a quiet year in Louisiana. Vote YES on the coastal restoration amendment and YES on the Orleans Parish workers' bill of rights.

Extremely nervous,

ELECTION DAY 2024

I'm spending Election Day online in the New Mexico "boiler room" for the DCCC. I'll be answering a hotline where poll workers call with questions or problems. I did this back in law school for the 2004 John Kerry race and WOW life and politics have changed. Drop off some food, or come by and hang out with me and the fluffs while we watch continuous election coverage.

This will be the first election day since 2021 that I'm not on a ballot thank goodness.

If you're in New Orleans, you might be in a new congressional district, so check your ballot at Geaux Vote.

The one proposed state constitutional amendment on the ballot is a YES. Currently, all offshore oil and gas money the state receives flows directly to coastal protection (CPRA). The amendment would send all money the state receives from alternative/renewable energy to CPRA as well.

VOTE YES on CA No. 1 (Act No. 408)

I'm supporting the city charter proposition #2, which would place a worker bill of rights in the city charter. Big YES to Step Up and Britain for their hard work on this.

VOTE YES on Home Rule Charter 2

Charter proposition #1 would take 2% of the city budget every single year for a housing trust fund. The Times-Picayune, who advised against it, reported that most of the money for the Nola First PAC that is pushing this charter change is from developers, namely, River District: "Members of the River District consortium and other New Orleans developers are the main financial backers of a November ballot initiative that would direct millions of city tax dollars annually to affordable housing projects." Campaign finance reports here.

MISCELLANEOUS

Yes we are heading up to Baton Rouge on Wednesday because some want to rewrite our tax code, right now during honeymoon year, in a certain way. You can read the proposed bills here or here. It's supposed to be over by Thanksgiving.

Last week several groups sued the state for the awful bill passed by the Louisiana legislature this year making misoprostol and mifepristone controlled substances. Misoprostol is used regularly, for example to induce labor, for postpartum hemorrhaging, miscarriage management, it's part of the "abortion pill", and it's used to treat ulcers. We are seeing so many tragedies across the country as severe abortion restrictions go into effect.

Making International News for the wrong reasons

I keep busy as usual. Legislative stuff, work stuff (I'm still a lawyer!), Lennon stuff, dog stuff, and more. I speak to business groups and school groups; hang with friends at art events; judge Halloween costume contests; visit big ships; and much more.

Reach out if I can help with anything.

Mandie
