County Recorder Update

With the 2024 election cycle in the rearview mirror, preparations for 2025 began weeks before we celebrated the New Year!

While our local jurisdictions like schools and other special districts have responded to our inquiries that they do not plan on holding elections this spring. However, many believe the state legislature will call a special election to renew a ballot measure that increased the distribution from the state land trust to K-12 schools in May.

Additionally, the Board of Supervisors has approved a request by STV Inc. to gather petition signatures in an effort to place the question on a ballot of whether or not San Tan Valley should be incorporated. If enough valid signatures are obtained, the election will be held August 5, 2025.

Stay tuned as these potential elections take shape!

Have a question?

Elections are complex and have layers of procedures, policies and legal guidelines from the state and federal government from which we administer the election.

From election equipment and polling places to ballot security and chain of custody, each process we perform is based on statute and industry best practices. If you have a question, click the link below to submit it to us and we'll feature it in an upcoming newsletter.

This month's featured question:

Can a voter have someone help them when marking their ballot?

If a voter is unable to mark the ballot themselves, they can receive assistance from a person of their choice at the polling place or at home if voting an early ballot.

Each in-person voting location has a touchscreen and audio machine that allows for voters needing assistance to vote independently. If they prefer to have poll workers directly assist them while voting in person, two board members of different political party affiliations can help.

If someone needs assistance due to a confining illness or physical challenges, they may request a Special Election Board (SEB) to assist them. SEB’s are two-member boards consisting of individuals from different political parties that provide voting assistance.
