WP is the only higher education institution to be recognized among 24 organizations and 24 individuals for this award, which recognizes companies and individual innovators who have demonstrated excellence in technology and leadership.
The University is one of 12 nationwide to be awarded funding through the newly created Augustus F. Hawkins Grant program, which points to a strong, diverse teaching base as fundamental to closing student achievement gaps across the country.

The transformative gift from Mrs. LeBeau's estate will be used to create a scholarship fund for students, both undergraduate and graduate, who are studying to become special education teachers.
The event with students was held in the Atrium prior to Lebowitz’s Distinguished Lecturer Series address that evening in Shea Center. Select undergraduate journalism students and master’s degree students studying professional communication and creative non-fiction took part.
“The project was a true collaboration between the students and their professor, between the students and the members of the radio station, between the art and communication departments, and with the physical plant operations department as well,” says WPSC-FM General Manager Rob Taylor.
More than 500 students learned about the importance of philanthropy during the inaugural event, as they found out more about the impact donors have on their education and then signed “Thank You” cards.
