VCES Families,
With all the conveniences and quick fixes of today's world, raising resilient children can be challenging. The strength and will students display isn’t so much about the end result or the outcome but more about the process that gets them to the end. Kids today are accustomed to life moving quickly. They have access to information with just a few clicks and the idea of having to wait can be foreign to them.
Raising resilient or gritty kids that can push through adversity or continue when something is challenging is an important life skill that has to be taught. Here is one idea to help.
Have them set a goal. It should be a SMART goal.
S-Specific
M-Measurable
A-Achievable (But not too easy)
R-Relevant
T-Time line
Then encourage, believe in, and support them. But don’t do it for them. Grow their confidence, by demonstrating and showing them you believe they are capable- even when it gets hard, they get frustrated, it takes longer than they thought, and all the other obstacles they may encounter. They are capable.
