Gladys Brangman honored with New York State Senate Commendation Award
In recognition of Black History Month, Tompkins Chamber member Gladys Brangman was honored with a New York State Senate Commendation Award for her impactful work as the founder and CEO of Business Leaders of Colors, where she has supported and empowered aspiring business owners across the Southern Tier. Her leadership was highlighted alongside other community advocates for advancing equity, uplifting others, and inspiring positive change throughout the region.

New Roots Charter School Winter Open Houses

New Roots is excited to share its new Montessori-inspired middle school program, along with its award-winning high school. Guests will have the opportunity to meet teachers and staff, learn about the school’s award-winning curriculum, and tour its historic building. Enrollment is currently open for students in grades 6–12. In September 2026, New Roots will begin its 17th year of offering an excellent, free, public school education in Central New York—and prospective students are invited to be part of it.

CREATE A TEAM AND JOIN THE BUZZ! Puns, quips, and witticisms abound in Ithaca Public Education Initiative’s annual “fun”draiser competition for word aficionados now in its 28th year. Held at Liquid State Brewing Company, ten “hive” teams compete for the Queen Bee Trophy and pots of local honey to support Ithaca City School District teachers and students.
