Summer weather outlook shows elevated signs of Fire Weather

Photo by the Southern California Geographic Coordination Center

June - September 2025 South Ops Highlights

  • A moderate to strong tilt in the odds towards above normal large fire potential exists for areas shaded in red.
  • There has already been one observed large fire in the timber dominated fuels at elevations above 7000ft in the Sierra.
  • There is an abnormally large grass load during the early summer months across lower lying and coastal elevations.
  • Large fires across all fuel types are possible during Summer 2025.

Join us at a workshop near you!

Join us for a workshop where we aim to explain how EVERYONE has a role in preparing for wildfires. New Zone 0 regulations have been enacted and more will be coming soon for folks in specific Fire Hazard Severity Zones. At these workshops, you will learn about general home hardening, what "Zone 0" means, and if it applies to you.

Chipper & Fuels Program Updates

IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO READ OUR GUIDELINES/REQUIREMENTS OR WE MAY NOT CHIP YOUR PILES! See more information here.

FILLMORE FUELS REDUCTION PROJECT

The fuels project for Fillmore Site 1 lies along the north end of Hunter and Foothill Drives. Notice of work is posted at A Street & Goodenough Rd (highlighted in image to the right).

Treatments will provide a buffer between the overgrown brush within the riverbed and nearby residential structures in the event of a wildfire. Work will be done over 7 days starting on or around May 28th between 7am and 6pm, Monday through Friday.

DRIVE THROUGH AUDIO EXHIBIT

As cars drive past A Street and Goodenough Rd, they’ll encounter a large static sign on the right side of the road with a simple website and QR code to scan, leading to an audio clip (available in English or Spanish) explaining the project. Can't make the drive? Listen by clicking the image to the right!

SHOUT OUT!

THE BIGGEST THANK YOU to Quality Ag (the crews doing the work), Wildscape Restoration (bio monitors), as well as Fillmore Fire Department's Chief Gurrola for his help in the planning process.

PIRU FUELS REDUCTION PROJECT

"The Park Street Project"

The Park Street Project in Piru focuses treatment along the northern area of town that abuts wildland. The project will include manual treatments within the approximately 4.9-acre treatment site along private property to modify ground and ladder fuels, and the thinning and trimming of trees. Treatment methods will include the use of hand tools such as chainsaws, and weed whippers, as well as a roadside chipper. Treatments will provide a buffer between the steel hills and nearby residential structures in the event of a wildfire. Work will be done over 7 days starting on or around June 16 between 7am and 6pm, Monday through Friday. The Environmental Impact Report (CalVTP) has already been completed and is available to view on the Board of Forestry’s website (https://bof.fire.ca.gov/projects-and-programs/calvtp-homepage-and-storymap/).
