Mayor Pro Tem Segovia Visits The White House
Mayor Pro Tem Kendi Segovia and several members of the Soroptimist International of Big Bear Valley (SIBBV) recently attended the 111th First Lady's Luncheon, put on by The Congressional Club at the White House. Considered one of Washington’s most exciting and historic events, the First Lady’s Luncheon is a gathering of spouses of current and former members of Congress, Administration officials, business leaders, philanthropists and friends of the Congressional Club Museum and Foundation to honor the First Lady and to champion bi-partisan community service. First Lady Dr. Jill Biden was a special guest speaker at the luncheon, which was attended by over 1,600 people. Heather Obernolte, wife of Congressman Jay Obernolte, chaired the event this year and selected Soroptimist International of the Americas as a non-profit recipient. At the event, the Mayor Pro Tem and the SIBBV group accepted a donation of $50,000 on behalf of the organization. During this trip to Washington D.C., the group was treated to a special tour of the Capitol, which included historical landmarks such as the Washington Monument, as well as the Library of Congress, and the Speaker of the House Balcony.
