True North Research utilized multiple databases to compile a list of Big Bear Lake residents and property owners, then reached out by mail, email, telephone and/or text to survey those that were randomly selected. Out of those that were randomly selected, 497 people participated in the first round of interviews.
If you haven't participated in the Community Visioning process yet and want to provide your input, don't worry, you can still complete the online survey, utilize the online mapping tool and/or participate in upcoming workshops and pop-up events! Stay tuned for more information.

City Council to Consider Increases to the Rates for Sewer User Fees; Public Hearing scheduled for Thursday, June 29, 2023
The City Council will hold a public hearing on Thursday, June 29, at 2 p.m. to consider adopting a resolution establishing increases to the rates for the City's Sewer User Fees. Property owners may submit a written protest to the proposed rate increases or can speak at the public hearing at the time and date noted below,

BBARWA intends to implement sewer rate increases over a five-year period, beginning July 1, 2023, with increases effective each July 1 thereafter through and including July 1, 2027. BBARWA is reportedly increasing its rates in order to pay for increased costs associated with treatment and disposal of wastewater, as well as costs associated with the Replenish Big Bear project. As a result, the City is proposing to increase the BBARWA Fee to recover the increased rates imposed on the City by BBARWA.

At their May 12, 2023, Special City Council Meeting, Council received a presentation by BBARWA General Manager David Lawrence regarding the sewer rate increase and the Replenish Big Bear project. City Manager's Corner

The City of Big Bear Lake is in the midst of a number of exciting endeavors that the City is seeking the community’s input on. The City’s Visioning Process is well underway and still has a number of opportunities for the public to provide feedback. The City’s previous Community Vision was developed more than two decades ago so the City wants to ensure that we capture what is important to our community now. Please visit: https://www.bigbearlakevision.com/ to share your thoughts.

Additionally, the City’s Budget process is underway and on May 24th at 10am the City will be hosting a public Budget Workshop to present the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24. I am really excited to present a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24. I also want to thank City staff for putting together a great budget. In putting together this budget, the City developed a theme, which is “Reset and Invest”. As we put the pandemic and the election of 2022 behind us, the City and City Council are ready to “Reset” and get back to doing great things for the community. Some of those great things are investing in the community to preserve the quality of life, investing in public safety, investing in the City’s great staff that provide an array of City services to the community, and most importantly, investing in our fiscal strength to ensure this great community remains a great place to live, work, and play.

I want to thank the City Council and staff for their unwavering support for the City of Big Bear Lake and the great things we have to look forward to in the next fiscal year. For more information on the City of Big Bear Lake’s budget please visit: www.citybigbearlake.com
