A Message from Our Pastor and Teacher
August 8: Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost ~~ "Be Bright"
Jesus says, "You are the light of the world." We've witnessed many shining stars these past two weeks in the Olympics. One Olympian, however, taught us about an inner light that shines beyond the Gold. When we are true to ourselves, the whole world wins! Be brave. Be bright. Be you.

August 7 is Sacred Saturday
|
“May the Spirit lead us to walk on sacred ground.” -Lailah Gifty Akita
Sacred Saturday will be held this week, August 7 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. We will gather at RUCC again for the first time since last March! It will be good to be on that ground and in that space together again, while also honoring protocols regarding Covid prevention. Please be sure to have a mask with you for the times we will be in community. If you are unable or are not comfortable with meeting in person, please reach out to Barbie Fiske-Phillips and we will try to work out Zoom options for the program. (Email: barbiefiskephillips@gmail.com or Phone: (909) 709-9073)
Whether you are a regular attendee of Sacred Saturday, or if you’ve never come before, you are welcome for a time of community, self reflection, prayer, meditation and silence.

Two More Steps on the Path Back to "Normal"
|
First Step
Last Sunday, August 1, we resumed "passing the plate" for the Sunday offering. The Board authorized this action at its July meeting. It was felt that the symbolism of placing the offering on the altar during the doxology was important.
Second Step
The quarterly congregational gathering will be held on August 15. It will be LIVE, and IN PERSON! The congregation will be asked to remain in the Sanctuary for the meeting. There will be fellowship time on the patio after the conclusion of the gathering.

Reflection of the Week from the Racial Justice Team
|
"If certain types of characters really want to change things, they should do it the right way. Show up to a Community Board Meeting on the third Tuesday of semi-alternating months at 3:16 PM EST (Estonian Standard Time) and simply wait four and a half hours to make a two-minute statement. It’s that easy. I’ve been doing it for three decades, and I think things are going great."

SCRIP PROGRAM BACK IN FULL SWING!
|
Scrip/Gift Card Program is still ongoing! – When you purchase gift cards to pay for your day-to-day expenses or provide as gifts, RUCC receives a rebate that helps fund our missions. It’s an easy way to raise some money for RUCC.
In-Person Orders and Pickup – We will have a table set up outside after worship – pick up your orders, place new orders, and learn about the scrip/gift card program. We will also have a small stock of Stater Bros cards available, which you can purchase. We will be placing orders for physical cards once a month (next order date will be August 9) UNLESS we get enough orders that justify the shipping costs to place orders more frequently.
eCards – Remember that you can buy eGift cards, available to you immediately, to use for online or in-person shopping or to send as a gift. Every time you buy, RUCC gets a small rebate.
Please contact Jennifer at scrip@uccredlands.org if you need help placing an order or want to learn more about the program.
