Hey there good folks! Long time no speak, super busy summer with more projects than I have had since pre-covid. Had to focus on the real world stuff for a couple months. Things are getting back to a manageable level again though so we should flow right back into our normal routine. Been working on some real cool stuff though including an important Historic Preservation project with previous ACE! Advisor Michelle Dinsmore of Overit Media and helping to draft a Regional / Statewide Artist Survey that should be coming out this fall that included 3 regional institutions of note.
Onto the now! This month comes back strong with an interview with Eli Dvorkin of the Center for an Urban Future. You may know that name from the 'Upstate’s Creative Spark: How the Arts Is Catalyzing Economic Vitality Across Upstate New York' report that was made possible by the Rochester Area Community Foundation. A couple of months ago, Eli was in town to review some specific numbers pulled from the data pertaining to the Capital District. If you have not seen them yet, they are eye opening. Links to the FULL study and CAP REGION SPECIFIC presentation are in the article.
Another recent development, the Freelance Isn't Free Act went into law in late August. Get up to speed on that with some useful links as well in a brief piece by Duncan Crary, local PR maven who was pretty excited for this as he has been stiffed more then once by a couple disreputable past clients.
Finally, our annual fall event with the Opalka Gallery in Albany is back this coming Friday (09.13) with a killer line up that you won't want to miss if your in the area. Opening night on First Friday clocked in over 500 attendees with headline act Super 400 and we expect this one to be equally well supported.
Have any cool creative job listings, open calls, industry news or grant funding opportunities? Drop me a line and get them included in our next issue.
