In 2015, the Gloucester, MA PAARI (Police Assisted Addiction & Recovery Initiative) developed a revolutionary new way to fight the war on drugs by doing something about the demand; not just the supply. Under this plan, drug addicts who seek help are placed in a recovery program rather than face arrest and jail time. A true catalyst for change!
Thanks to the collaborative efforts of Oakland Community Health Network, Oakland County Health Department, Common Ground, local law enforcement agencies and prevention, support and recovery organizations, it has evolved in Oakland County so that
state and local law enforcement (as listed below) can transport individuals from local jurisdictions and/or Sheriff substations to the
Sober Support Unit who:
* Agree to go to the Unit in preparation for substance abuse services and recovery
* Are willing to participate in a mental health/substance abuse assessment
