Farewell Summer, Hello Hurricane Season!
If you were not fortunate enough to be one of the fabulous volunteers supporting this year's Coast Guard Day event, you missed a great one! We hosted a new record with over 4000 attendants at this year's event! Thanks again to all of the sponsors who I mentioned in last month's blog. The Elizabeth City Coast Guard units are getting super busy with the arrival of a lot of new personnel. While many in the community are prepping for the back to school season, the Aviation Technical Training Center (ATTC) graduated 19 Aviation Technicians and sent them to their new assignments across the country. During the month, the devoted crew at the Air Station conducted 18 Search and Rescue (SAR) cases, saving five lives and assisting four others! The Boat Station represented Elizabeth City at the Plymouth NC Boat Races and for an event called "The Crossing" at Lake Gaston where 500 swimmers crossed the lake. That crew recovered two individuals with medical issues! It appears that Hurricane season finally decided to rear its ugly head so please stay safe out there.
Have a great September.

Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity

Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity would like to thank B&M Contractors for their generous donation of an HVAC system for our new house. This mini-split system should keep our new partner family comfortable for many years to come while saving them money on their utility bills.
Thanks also to the Albemarle Area Association of REALTORS for their $4000 donation to cover the costs of plumbing installation.
Site preparation is expected to begin shortly, and we are still looking for businesses and individuals who would like to donate to help with this project.
We recently incurred two unexpected expenses when we submitted our building permit application to the City of Elizabeth City. There is a new $6000 sewer and water impact fee for all new construction in the city. We were unaware of this new charge and we are soliciting donations to help make up this cost. The City's weatherization program funds for insulation were also cut this year. Insulation costs $4000.
We are still looking for donations and/or sponsors for: foundation materials (concrete blocks, sand, concrete), windows, doors, siding, sheet rock, insulation, cabinets, hardware, tubs and bathroom fixtures.
Habitat for Humanity relies on volunteers and donations to keep our costs down Every donation, no matter how small, will help us construct this home for our new partner family.. If you or your business would like to make a donation or help at our job site,

WORLD RABIES DAY
September 28 is an opportunity for people around the world to unite in rabies prevention.
Every year hundreds of thousands of people like you organize and participate. All over the world people take part in local, regional and national events, held to raise awareness about and/or prevent the spread of rabies. There are lots of ways to raise awareness - you could organize a rally, visit a school to talk to the children about safety around dogs, and/or encourage your local newspaper or radio station to recognize World Rabies Day.
The best way to start your participation in the event is by stopping by our clinic and getting your pets vaccinated against the spread of the rabies virus. The first step starts with you!
