August was an amazing whirlwind of celebrations, and we love the support we saw at each and every
event!
September is another month full of exciting events! We celebrate Taylor Mueller Realty’s new location on September 9th, our Inaugural Brahaha Elizabeth City with Chesapeake Regional Health on September 17th, Alive After Five on September 20th, Lunch Bunch on September 21st, Fairfield Inn's beautiful refresh on September 22nd, and MidAtlantic Christian University's new dining hall on September 29th! And that is just Chamber events!
A question was recently asked that resonated with me: "What will you look back on in 60 years that you can say 'I did that' or 'I was a part of that'." I say all this to say - get involved! With so many activities happening in our community, there is every reason to be active wherever your passion leads!
Our business community shows up and supports each other and that is obvious each time we gather to celebrate. It is very special, and we are thriving! Where else can you make an impact? What is your next step in your business and your community? What can your Chamber do to support you? Our mission is to promote, support and advocate for you. We are here for you! See you at these extraordinary events and celebrations! We will be talking!
Serving You,
Anya Davis

WHY WOMEN OVER 50?
I started a portrait series which will end in a gallery exhibition and celebration. My goal is to photograph twenty incredible women of beauty, strength, and grace, showcase their portraits and tell their stories, so people can see what 50 really looks like, be inspired, and celebrate with them.
I've got 20+ reasons why you should sign up to be a part of it. Do you have the time to read them all?
Here are my top three reasons:
- They deserve to feel beautiful and they deserve to be seen. THIS IS 50+ portrait experience is all about making them feel special, and showing the different sides of who they are.
- Old is not a dirty word. Aging is simply a part of the life we have been given, and if you're not growing older, you're dead. So we celebrate life, every stage of it.
-
We photograph things that are remarkable. And 50 years on earth is remarkable. As is 60, 70, 80, and on. Portraits are about people, and if anyone deserves to have a beautiful portrait of them done, it is the people who have lived.
So I hope you'll join me and the other women who will tell their stories and inspire others to exist in beautiful portraits they love, at every age.

Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity
|
|
As any homeowner knows, renovations are rarely simple. When Elizabeth City Habitat for Humanity began our current renovation project for an elderly deaf homeowner, we anticipated a quick job. The homeowner said she needed a new screen door, mailbox and repair of a leaky toilet.
Because she is deaf, a normal doorbell and smoke detector are useless. Each of these items is a specialty item and needs to be special ordered. We received an incredible donation of $585 from Riverside United Methodist Church on Monday to cover these costs. Another donor also gave $140 to help with these extra expenses.
Initially, we thought the leaking toilet was a simple repair but her entire floor had rotted out so that it crumbled in our hands as we removed it. Rick Boyd, the Traveling Tool Guy, came to our rescue. He shored up one floor joist that was damaged, installed new flooring braces and subfloor. Tim Thompson installed a new step-in shower.
Her back stairs didn’t have handrails and the Berea Baptist Church Handyman Ministry installed new railings for her back door and garage. We have replaced doorknobs with accessible door handles and will install grab bars in the bathroom.
Our volunteers are preparing to repair sheetrock in the bathroom so painting can be done before Carpet Connection installs the new vinyl flooring.
These repairs have been possible because of the generous grant that we received from Lowe’s. To keep this program going and meet the needs of other seniors in our area, we need additional donations. Repairs are capped at $5000 per house. Homeowners are required to pay no more than 10% or $500 toward the cost of materials needed to make the repairs.
One additional homeowner has been approved for repairs and another is awaiting approval. We need additional volunteers to work on these projects. Our work crew is all over 65 and we are looking for young helpers! Contact us at echabitat@yahoo.com if you can give a few hours to work on a project.
If you are interested in donating to the repair fund, mail contributions to Norma James at Taylor Mueller Realty, 422 McArthur Dr., Elizabeth City, NC 27909. All donations are tax-deductible.
If you are interested in applying for minor home repairs, you can pick up an application at Taylor Mueller Realty. Include proof of household income and mark “Repairs” on the application.

Coming Soon – An Entrepreneur/Small Business Resource Hub
As you travel downtown on Church Street, you may have seen a property at the corner of Pool and Church Streets that is in the process of renovation. This property will soon become Entrepreneur Resources Business Support Center (Entre-BSC). Entrepreneur Resources is a new venture from the well-known business, Workforce Resources, Inc., and is being embarked upon to support entrepreneurs and small business owners in operating, innovating, and growing their businesses. We believe this dynamic space will fill a gap not currently being met in the Elizabeth City downtown area, and we hope it is a resource worth waiting for!
Located at 206 E. Church Street, this Center will provide two floors of reasonably-priced office space and serve as a platform for success. We will offer various flexible options for accessing the desired services with NO long-term contracts. So, whether you are in need of a commercial mailing address; desire phone answering services; require a place to work, hold business meetings, or conduct employee onboarding/training; or would benefit from collaborating with other business owners, Entre-BSC is the place for you! We will provide access to subject matter experts in areas such as business development, finance, project management, and government contracting; we will also offer administrative support services to assist with back-office tasks. It is anticipated to be a comfortable space that supports not only business operation but creativity and innovation as well.
We are hopeful that Entre-BSC will be up and running within the next six months. We’re down to the studs and ready to build back up. Our intent is to show progress on the renovation every other month or so; with those updates we will be able to better determine when our grand opening will be.
Should you have questions during the renovation period, feel free to contact us at (252) 336-6800, or take a peek at our website at www.Entre-bsc.com. We look forward to speaking with all interested parties in the very near future.
