2001 Ajax Boys - State Champions

On October 28, the 2001 Ajax boys, led by Coaches Mirza and Nedim Hasanbegovic, were crowned the 2018 18U Boys State Cup Champions! The team had an incredible season going 6-0-1 in the Director's Division of Nebraska League and then made it look easy taking the State title. After clinching pool play victories by scores of 6-0, 5-1 and 7-0, they made a convincing run in the semifinal and final matches with 5-0 and 10-0 victories respectively.

Congratulations to Mirza, Nedim and the boys!

Amy Tilley is the director of our Hive 4U/5U/6U program and the head coach for our 2008G Ajax team and was named Nebraska State Soccer's Recreational Coach of the Year in October. There is no one more deserving of this award than Amy.

You've probably seen Coach Amy working tirelessly to make sure that our youngest players start soccer off on the right foot by making it a fun, enjoyable experience for them. We are so proud to have Amy in our ESC family. Congratulations, Tilley!

Soccer Sisters in Sweden

Cassie & Mia Gaul's ODP Team

Elkhorn Soccer Club player, Cassie Gaul, and her younger sister, Mia, earned the opportunity to travel to Europe with their ODP team this past summer. Cassie plays for Coach Anne Schafer on the 2002 Ajax squad as an outside back.

From July 30th-August 8th, 2018, Cassie and her sister traveled with a group of girls, ages 13-16, from Nebraska and Iowa to Denmark and Sweden to compete in international friendlies and a tournament.

When they first arrived in Copenhagen, the team visited the stadium of professional Danish team, Football Club  Nordsjælland, commonly known as FCN. The girls were trained by the professional coaching staff of FCN on their pitch. "I learned several new and different techniques on how to position myself when players are coming at me straight on which I find myself using in games I play for ESC now," said Cassie.

After a couple of international friendlies, the team traveled to Sweden where they began their official tournament games. Before the first game, Cassie was named captain of her international team. "It truly was an honor," said Cassie. "I learned very quickly how best to lead the girls on and off the field." She was pleased with her team's performance in the tournament and left the field with lasting friendships, too.

Aside from playing, the team was able to experience local culture including visiting a castle and watching two professional games, one in which the team got to walk the American flag down onto the field. "Getting that recognition for my country was something I'll never forget," said Cassie. They also were invited to have dinner with other teams they played against and get to know the players and their varying cultures. Cassie said she still keeps in touch with many of her friends abroad.

Although her entire experience abroad was unforgettable, Cassie said her favorite part of it all was bike riding through Copenhagen. "I've never been in such awe of another culture before," she said. "And I won't soon forget it."

Fall 2018 Celtic FC Visit

Elkhorn Soccer Club has been very fortunate to be an international partner with Celtic Soccer Academy for the past two years. Through our partnership, our club has access to world-class coaching curriculum and the opportunities to train with Celtic FC coaching staff here and abroad.

In November, we welcomed coaches Ruaridh Macinnes and Zander Carruth from Glasgow, Scotland to ESC for training sessions with players from our 9U, 10U and A.D.O. futsal programs. There were over 60 players in attendance.

On Monday and Tuesday, our Select teams training at Thrive Space were privy to having Ruaridh and Zander run their training sessions. The coaches worked with players 11U-19U throughout their collective 25 sessions in just two nights.

Elkhorn was their last stop on a 3-week trip to the states where they also visited clubs in St. Louis and Dallas. Our international partnership with Celtic FC continues to provide our club with unique opportunities such as this and we look forward to many years to come!
