Parks & Henry Awarded 2018
"Developing A Culture Of Excellence" Scholarships
Elkhorn Soccer Club seniors, Jackson Parks and Ally Henry, are this year's recipients of the "Developing A Culture Of Excellence" Scholarship. This scholarship was established in accordance with ESC's philosophy of helping players achieve their full potential on and off the field. In keeping with this philosophy, ESC awards two scholarships, in the amount of $500, annually to high school seniors who demonstrate a desire to continue achieving excellence beyond high school.
Parks, a player for Coach Andrew Percic's '99-'00 Ajax team, has been a member of ESC since 2009, starting in our recreational program before joining a Select team in 2011. He plans to attend Creighton University this fall to major in Chemistry (Pre-Medicine), with a minor in Spanish.
Parks says he is honored to receive this scholarship. "I feel that it's a representation of my hard work and dedication on the soccer field and in the classroom," says Parks. "I want to thank all of the coaches that I have had at ESC. I will take the lessons I have learned over the last several years as I work toward my goal of becoming a doctor."
Henry, a member of Coach Anne Schafer's '99-'00 Ajax team, says that her time with ESC has helped her develop as a person. "Because I had to work my way up from team to team when I first joined, I learned the importance of working hard in order to achieve my goals," says Henry. She says she was forced to go outside her comfort zone which ultimately has helped shape her as a person today.
Henry plans to major in medical engineering at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with the intention of attending medical school post-undergrad. As a triplet with six siblings, Henry is appreciative of this scholarship as her parents will be putting four kids through college this year, with three more soon after that. "This scholarship will really help me get the education I need in order to succeed and fulfill my plans for myself," says Henry.
We are proud of Jackson and Ally as they pursue their educational goals and for setting an example for the players behind them. They've proven they know what it takes to contribute to a culture of excellence and we are certain they will take that with them in their college careers. Congratulations, Jackson and Ally!
