Chamber Connection - June 2019
WE'RE BETTER
TOGETHER:

IT'S NOT JUST A SLOGAN!
Greetings from the Elkins - Randolph County Chamber! I hope this newsletter finds you beginning to enjoy the warm summer days and beautiful evenings this part of our world has to offer. I know I am! After six months at the Chamber, getting to know members and many of the businesses in our area, a strategic planning survey and first steps in a long-term plan, and many wonderful events, I'm starting to get a handle on where the Chamber is... and where we need to go.
First, as it says in the picture above, we ARE better together. That is the building block on which everything the Chamber does rests. When one of our membership does well, we ALL do well. The Chamber is a community of business leaders, organizations, and individuals who all want to see Elkins and Randolph County succeed. So, when there is an opportunity to network with your fellow members, I encourage you to join in!
Second, our mission is to “advocate, educate, and network to enhance business opportunities” in our community. The Chamber is busy planning opportunities that will allow our members with skills and training to share their knowledge in hands-on, educational settings. These gatherings/summits combine the education and networking aspects of our mission.
Third, the Chamber’s vision is to be “a vibrant, economic driver for Elkins and Randolph County.” That means we, the Chamber, get involved. We let our voices be heard. We reach across the table, or the street, or the county to find fellow members, or future members, who want to get on with the business of business . We collaborate with partners who will help us see our vision come to fruition.
Finally, I want to thank the Chamber for the opportunity to be your Executive Director. I accepted this position, because I want to see Elkins and Randolph County not just do well, but thrive. I welcome your thoughts and ideas. Working together, I believe the future for our community is a bright one. Won’t you join me in creating that vibrant place we all want to live, work, and play?

Performance Chevy Hosts
WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP
Conference
The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce held its second annual Women In Leadership Conference, sponsored by Performance Chevrolet, on Friday, June 7th at Graceland Inn on the campus of Davis & Elkins College. Thirty-four women from across Randolph County and beyond participated in this year's conference.

Guest speaker, Rebekah “Becky” D. Mathis-Stump, led the women in attendance through three sessions that covered, How Leaders Relate, How Leaders Communicate, and How Leaders Think. D&E Dining Services provided attendees with breakfast before the first session began, as well as lunch on the Graceland Veranda before the final session.

Attendees completed surveys at the end of the conference, giving 5 stars to the speaker, the
venue, the sponsors, and the day’s host, the Elkins Randolph County Chamber. Attendees commented that the event was “inspirational, beneficial, powerful, affirming, interactive, and fun.” They also listed the great networking opportunities and timely/meaningful topics. In addition, all the surveys indicated that the attendees would definitely like to come back again for the 2020 Women in Leadership Conference!
