We're back from the 2016 National Convention and it was a success!
ENVSC Chair Jim Nichelson recapped our 2015-16 with a dazzling speech, and Director Mary Morgan and Elks Scholar Fellow Sancy Childers were guests on the ENF's Midday Podcast.
At our booth, ENVSC Staff and Program Chairs spread the word about our programs, and our auction raised nearly $2,000 to buy beds for veterans exiting homelessness.
We also debuted a new video about the Elks initiative to end veteran homelessness. In the past four months, we have helped nearly 400 Chicago veterans exit or avoid homelessness through our emergency assistance program.
Many of you may be familiar with the DAV (aka the Disabled American Veterans) organization. Founded in 1920, the DAV is "dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity."
What you may not know is that the DAV provides free transportation to VA medical facilities for injured and ill veterans. This wide-ranging program exists in hundreds of locations across the country. Learn more at their website. Then, spread the word to veterans who might benefit, or sign up to be a volunteer driver!
