City Parks Ready For Winter

The access road to Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park closed on Sunday, October 30 for the winter, to be re-opened in the spring.

Ellensburg City Park restrooms with flush toilets will also be closed and winterized for the season. Some Ellensburg Parks will be equipped with temporary restrooms including North Alder Street Park, Mountain View Park, and the Rotary Park Off-Leash Area. Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park and Paul Rogers Park both have vault (non-flush) toilets that remain open in winter. Restrooms and entry gates will reopen in the spring.

The Reed Park Master Planning Process Is Underway

The City will host a community-wide Reed Park master planning meeting on November 16 at 6 p.m., in the City Hall Council Chambers. The goal of the master planning effort is to develop a park master plan focused on improving park safety by expanding non-motorized access opportunities to and within the park, while still maintaining existing park elements that make Reed Park unique to our community.

At this meeting Bob Droll, from RWD Landscape Architects, will present three park plan options the public can review and comment on. Those plans will include:

  • the park's current layout with minor improvements
  • a plan that incorporates overlook parking but with bigger changes to the park layout
  • a plan that incorporates minimal overlook parking

Development of these concept plans is currently in process, when completed they will be updated to the Be Heard Eburg Reed Park page.

A second community meeting will take place on December 14 at 6 p.m. at City Hall where the next iteration of conceptual plan(s) which incorporate feedback from the November 16 meeting will be on display. If at the conclusion of the December 14 meeting, there is general consensus for a park plan, or elements for a plan, then the plan will be taken to the Parks & Recreation Commission at their February 8, 2023 meeting for consideration, and to City Council in March 2023 for final adoption. Members of the public are invited to attend meetings and provide their input and feedback.

Please contact Brad Case, Parks & Recreation Director, with any questions or input about the master planning effort, [email protected], 509-925-8639.
