Concerts In The Park

Music is in the air and the Summer Concerts in the Park are back this month! Listen to live music every Thursday from 6:30-8 p.m. July 20-August 24 at North Alder Street Park.


Bring your blankets, lawn chairs, dinner, and dancing shoes for a free family-friendly event brought to you by the Parks & Recreation Department.

Downtown Street & Parking Closures On July 3

The City of Ellensburg will be resurfacing three downtown City streets on Monday, July 3, pending suitable weather. This project requires a full-day closure of the following downtown streets from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 3: 

  • Fourth Avenue from Water Street to Ruby Street 
  • Pearl Street from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue 
  • Pine Street from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue


Any vehicles left in the project area after 12:01 a.m. on July 3 may be towed. Pedestrian access on sidewalks and crosswalks will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Please use care in the area as workers and heavy equipment will be operating in the vicinity. Alleyways leading to and from the project area may be impacted as well due to their proximity to the project.

Downtown Road Closure

Overlay and frontage improvements on Wildcat Way and Main Street will take several weeks to complete and will include some night work, starting in July.


The project includes approximately 4,000 tons of asphalt and 26 ADA ramps that will be brought up to code.


Grinding and overlay on Main Street will be at night, allowing for one lane of traffic in each direction. Grinding and overlay on Wildcat Way will be at night with a full rolling closure.

Youth Gladiator Dash Registration Open

Mud! Sweat! Cheers! The Youth Gladiator Dash is back, Saturday, August 5th at Rotary Park.


Youth age 5 through 8th grade are invited to come on out and get your mud on! The Youth Gladiator Dash is a challenging, exciting fun run with many muddy obstacles along the way. The Dash includes running, jumping, sliding, crawling, balancing, hopping, searching, climbing, throwing, and the opportunity to get muddy!


Participants must register.

$10 Registration in person at the Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool or online from June 5 to July 21 (T-shirt included)

$10 Registration at the event (no T-shirt)


Day of event:

9:30 a.m. Check-in begins at Rotary Park.

10:00 a.m. Starting time age 5 to 4th grade, followed by grade 5-8.

Following the last grade group, families are welcome to run the course.

City Grant Applications Open

The City of Ellensburg is accepting applications for Ellensburg’s Council-funded Grant Programs and Arts Commission Grants for work to be completed in 2024. Each program has a specific purpose, application, and requirements:


  • Community Grants - $18,908.62 available to support actions to address community needs
  • Park Partnership Grants - $18,908.62 available to support capital projects to improve City parks, trails, open space, and recreation facilities
  • Water Quality Grants - $10,000 to improve and protect local surface water quality
  • Historic Preservation Grants - $18,908.62 available for historic preservation efforts
  • Arts Commission Grants - up to $2,500 (groups) and $1,000 (individuals) to expand local arts programs and performances


Information and application materials for each program are available on the City’s website at: ellensburgwa.gov/grants.


The application deadline for all five grant programs is 5 p.m. August 31, 2023 for potential 2024 funding. 

Chipseal Set For July 24-27, 2023

City of Ellensburg street crews will perform annual chipseal of roadways on July 24-27, 2023 between the hours of 5 a.m. and 5 p.m.


Please remember to:

  • Park vehicles off the affected road on dates the crews are scheduled.
  • Do not water your yard close to the street.
  • Affected roads will have No Parking signs posted at least 24 hours prior to the start of work.
  • Access to City streets during the chipseal process is limited.

New! DEI Commission Accepting 2023 Grant Applications

The City of Ellensburg’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission is accepting grant applications for 2023 projects supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion related educational opportunities, social gathering opportunities, and supporting access to community resources to create a sense of belonging within the community. 


The grant is a new program from the Commission, and up to $4,000 is available for potential projects that will be completed in the 2023 calendar year. Awarded grant funds must be spent in the 2023 calendar year, and documentation is required for reimbursement from the City. 

Information and application materials for the program are available on the City’s website at: ellensburgwa.gov/grants.


The application deadline for the programs is 5 p.m. July 31, 2023 for potential 2023 funding. The DEI Commission grant subcommittee will review applications and make a recommendation for funding at the August 8, 2023 commission meeting.

Did You Know?

There is a new traffic signal at Fifth Avenue and Railroad Avenue. The project cost $476,600 and will improve traffic flow to the West Ellensburg neighborhood.

Steel Magic Northwest Concert 7/1

Steel Magic Northwest, a youth steel drum orchestra out of the Edmonds and Kent areas, will be playing a free concert at North Alder Street Park on Saturday, July 1 from 6-7 p.m.

City facilities will be closed on Tuesday, July 4 in observance of the holiday.

Remote Control Boat Races 7/15 & 7/16

Remote control boat races will be held at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For safety reasons, the grass area and upper pond will be closed to the public and their animals from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fenced off-leash dog park will remain open. The grass area and upper pond will be available to use from 6 p.m. to park closing.
