Greetings Alumni & Friends,

And just like that, we are at the end of May! The seniors have had “the last of their lasts” this week – last classes, last performances, last games – and our 224th commencement will be their “last first” on June 2 on the Quad.

All of next week will be a first for both the class of 2017 and for LA – we are piloting our first Senior Summit. Akin to Winterim, Senior Summit offers the seniors the choice between three immersive, academic, hands-on courses led by our faculty: a creative arts and humanities performance option, a social science shark tank situation, and a problem-solving math and science experience. Interspersed throughout the week are cookouts, field day, and time for bonding before graduation. We’ll let you know how it goes! The wonderful thing about LA is we are always trying to find new and innovative ways to challenge and develop our students, and we keep finding them right up to the very end of their time with us.

Speaking of the end of their time with us, after 41 years at LA, Ned Mitchell is “graduating”, experiencing “lasts” of his own this spring. Recently, I had lunch in the dining hall with Ned and two other LA icons, Dick Jeffers and Paul Husted '64 (see photo below). Dick and Paul are recruiting Ned for the LA Heritage Project, the archives, and preservation of LA's past. To capture and preserve the essence of Ned's service to LA, I followed up this conversation with an interview for this month's feature video. I hope you enjoy it. Click here to watch...

Reunion is coming up on June 9-10. We hope to see many of you back! Click here for information...

BTW: I want to thank anyone who helped support our Spring Social LA in Bloom. Wonderful to see so many alumni and parents of alumni! The Hamilton tickets were raffled, and over $53,000 was raised for the benefit of LA students and programs through the LA Fund. Check out photos from the evening here... Anyone on Cape Cod should join us for our summer gathering on Thursday, July 13, in Cotuit, MA, at the home of Charles B. Swartwood, III (Grandfather of Will Carley '17). Invites will be in the mail soon…Finally, just a friendly reminder to join our online alumni network – LA Connect – at
