“Oh, oh, oh, it’s magic….” That 70’s hit seems appropriate this end of school year. It seems like yesterday we were getting started, and PRESTO, we are done. LA’s first Senior Summit was a wonderful success, leading into graduation with the magic we had hoped and planned for. Feedback from the seniors was overwhelmingly positive, as they noted how they had felt engaged and bonded. They even commented that they wished they had had more than three days for the Summit. Our curriculum experts will certainly consider lengthening the experience for next year!
We graduated all 100 of them on June 2, [Video]. English teacher and longtime LA faculty member and alumnus David Smith ’65 captured the magic by giving an unforgettable graduation speech, complete with a card trick at the end in which all 100 seniors participated [Video].
A week later, on June 9-10, a couple hundred alumni returned to the elm-tree shaded hillside to see each other and their old teachers. Current LA faculty and many former faculty were in full force, with Friday night gatherings, the Tom Warner run, alumni panel, Saturday luncheon, our fourth annual Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony, and cocktails and dinner on the Quad, all well-attended and upbeat [Photos].
I send my best to all for a wonderful summer!
