ELMIRA, N.Y. - October 13, 2012 - The Elmira Jackals earned a convincing 7-1 win over the Greenville Road Warriors on Saturday night at First Arena. The win closed out Elmira's opening weekend and improved the team to 2-0-0 on the young season.

The Jackals struck quick in the first to grab the lead and never look back. Defenseman Kyle Bushee blasted a slap shot off of the end boards which was grabbed by Rob Bellamy on the carom and slipped past Greenville goalie Nathan Lieuwen. The goal was Bellamy's first of the season and came just 2:16 into the contest. Elmira managed eight other shots in the session but could not solve Lieuwen again. The Jackals' lead remained in tact, though, as Marc Cheverie stopped each of the six shots he faced.

In the second, Elmira began to distance itself from Greenville. This time it was Jordan Pietrus deflecting a Chris Wideman pass into the net just 3:20 in. It was Pietrus' second goal in as many games and gave him two points after assisting on Bellamy's goal. Bushee then pushed the lead to three with a power play goal on a slapper from the point with Elmira working on the power play. Greenville tried to chip away with a goal from Bretton Cameron at 17:03 but a trio of Elmira rookies wiped that out in short time. Kevin McCarey and Brad Peltz set up Brandon Blandina on the doorstep to restore Elmira's three-goal lead just 41 seconds after Cameron's goal. Cheverie stopped 11 shots in the second to help Elmira's lead grow.

The third was all Jackals as they poured on the offense. Peltz scored his first pro goal 2:10 in on a wrap around. Matt Campanale picked up his first point of the season with an assist while McCarey earned his second helper of the night. Andrew Rowe set up Dustin Gazely on a 2-on-1 at 15:14 to make it 6-1 then captain Jean Bourbeau finished the onslaught with an unassisted tally at 16:05. Cheverie had a nine-shot workload in the third and stopped each one he faced.

It was the second consecutive win for Cheverie as he denied 26 of the 27 shots sent his way. Elmira was 1-for-6 on the power and three-for-three on the penalty kill.
