All-School Updates

Yesterday Governor Walz officially announced that schools will be closed through April. TCGIS teachers have continued to collaborate on and refine their equitable distance-learning plans for all students that will start after Spring Break on April 6. Tomorrow we will send another Community Update with more specifics on these distance-learning plans.

In the meantime, we have created two webpages to assist families with both health and wellness and German enrichment resources. You can find links to these below, on our homepage, and in the footer of every Community Update, starting with #6.

In case you missed any of the email updates this past two weeks, find them here:

TCGIS Distance Learning Attendance Form

To stay in compliance with Minnesota statutes, TCGIS will resume taking attendance starting Monday, April 6. Through the distance-learning period, attendance will be taken via a Google Form  filled out daily by parents. The deadline for each day will be 11:59 PM, and the first day to complete the form will be  April 6.

Detailed instructions, as well as a link to the form, will be contained in a future email on the morning of the 6th. Please contact  [email protected] with any questions.
Middle School Families: Technology Access Survey

Middle School Parents:  if you have not already completed the  MS Technology Access Survey , please do this as soon as possible. Your feedback is vital information that helps us best support your student(s). Vielen Dank!
Kinderclub Updates: Spring Break and April 2020

Kinderclub will be closed during Spring Break: March 30-April 3.

TCGIS will continue to provide care for students of Emergency Workers, First Responders and Essential Workers starting April 6th. You may review the list of eligible workers  here

If you will continue or need to start care at TCGIS please fill out this form  by Monday, March 30 .  As a reminder we will provide care for your school-aged students between the ages of 5-12.
Construction Updates

Despite all the upheaval construction is still going strong. There was a small delay due to a structural revision of the steel which has now been delivered and was installed today. The demo of the foyer is moving forward (silver lining: no one has to listen to the jackhammering!). The photo to the right shows the space adjacent to the front stairwell - where there used to be a floor and where the new and current buildings will connect.

We look forward to construction progressing, barring any other closures or delays from deliveries. Construction is considered 'infrastructure' and therefore falls under the category of 'essential work,' so we anticipate that construction will progress as planned until we hear otherwise.

Share the TCGIS message in different languages!

In an effort to promote our school's goal of increasing diversity, the TCGIS school board Communications Committee wants to use videos in languages other than German and English to share what makes our school great. We are seeking volunteers to speak for the school in languages commonly spoken in Twin Cities immigrant communities such as Arabic, Spanish, Hmong, Vietnamese, Amharic, etc. Please contact Rich Iwen at [email protected] if you can participate in this outreach program.
Spring Break: March 30 - April 3

Next week is our official school spring break, a well-deserved pause for everyone! While school staff will not be checking emails, we  will send you more information the last weekend of spring break to help your family prepare for the first day of distance-learning on April 6.

We wish your family a wonderful week to relax and enjoy each other!
