Starting this Friday, Sept. 18, parents can pick up printed materials and other resources for distance learners from 2:00-3:15 PM on Friday afternoons at the Westeingang (west entrance) near the new parking lot. Weather permitting, pickup will take place outside; otherwise in the large entrance space there.
Library Updates: Books distributed this week
kids_reading_book.jpg
This week students are receiving their books from the library! Distance students will be receiving FIVE books, and hybrid students FOUR books. If you didn't fill out the Google-form library survey from last week, your child(ren) will receive a "surprise" bag and you'll have another opportunity to fill out the survey later in the year.

Pick-up: The books will be distributed in bags labeled with each student's name. All distance and middle school students may pick up their books this Friday, Sept. 18, during the materials pick-up.  Hybrid students are bringing them home this week.

Due Dates: Yellow/Green (hybrid) elementary and middle school students are due the week of October 5-9 (middle school connection week). Distance students' books are due the week before winter break (date TBD).

Returning Books: There are library bins outside the library to drop them off. There will also be a library drop-off bin at each Friday materials pick-up. Over the next few weeks there will be overdue book reminders sent out.
Enrich your family life with more German at home
Looking for ways to keep your students engaged with German? Check out the updated German Enrichment Page for excellent resources for kids of all ages. Looking for some screen-free enrichment? Check out these audio resources for great podcasts and audio books, or the music page, especially Herr Heimerl's Spotify playlist of songs "that won't drive you crazy!" There really is something for everyone, so please take some time to visit the enrichment site with your kids!
How COVID Impacts TCGIS Finances
Did you know that TCGIS incurs many expenses regardless of usage? For example, TCGIS still pays for full buses even though Covid distancing requirements, coupled with many families in Distance Learning, has reduced buses to running 4 days a week with fewer students.
Please consider donating to offset these costs if your child(ren) use the bus, or if they would in a normal year. Click here to sign up for a recurring bus donation. Even if you don’t use busing services, you can make a donation to help offset these busing costs in Boonli or in our Square Shop. Thank you for your ongoing support of TCGIS!

Voluntary Family Contact List: Sign-up is now open
Tell your friends & neighbors: TCGIS is still enrolling!
It's a rare to enroll at TCGIS without going through the lottery! We are currently enrolling in most grades; only Kindergarten and 4th grade have waiting lists. Did you know we offer language support for students who join us in later grades and don't speak German yet? We do! Please spread the word and help new families join our school!

Car Pick-up: Tap "Announce" when you're in line
If you pick up your child(ren) by car on Van Slyke, please remember to tap the "Announce" button in your Pikmykid app when you arrive. This lets the dismissal staff know you have arrived and we can send your child(ren) to your car.
COVID-19 Prevention and Screening
Thank you for preparing your child(ren) to wear masks and keep physical distance here at school. Students have been doing a fantastic job following these measures. Here are a few more resources for families:

Reminder: Daily Temperature and Symptom Check
All TCGIS students must have their temperature taken at home every day before coming to school. If their temperature is 100.4 they should not come to school.
Similarly if your child has any COVID-19 symptoms, they should also stay home. This symptom guide from MDH may be helpful.
Class Email Lists: Do we have your email?
email_laptop.jpg
If you are not receiving emails for your child's class, like the weekly Klassenbrief, please fill out this form to add your email to your child's class email list (e.g. KA, 3B, 5C). Please also login to PowerSchool to update your contact information using the T - Student Contacts form and make sure you are listed in the top two contacts.
A Carpool Tool for TCGIS Families
If you're interested in exploring carpooling to/from school, fill out this google form by Sept. 20, even if you signed up last year; we will update the list every year. Your address and limited contact information will be used to populate a Google map similar to the one on this page. After Sept. 20 we will follow up with families who choose to participate. We will update the Google map monthly if parents choose to consider carpooling at a later time.

German Tutors for TCGIS Students
Parents have asked the school about private tutoring resources to help their children's German skills stay strong. TCGIS has connected with nearby colleges and universities and found many German majors and minors who are interested in supporting TCGIS students through virtual private tutoring. Click here to learn more and connect with interested tutors.
Deutsch lernen macht Spaß!
Do your kids love to learn how things work? Are they into animals? Science? Stories?
