WELCOME TO NCL (NATIONAL CYBER LEAGUE) CYBER SECURITY GAMES! INFORMATION SESSION

Please join us for an in-person "Welcome and Introduction to the Fall 2024 NCL cyber security games” information session on CSU Pueblo campus in the Hasan School of Business building (HSB 119). Food and drinks will be provided.  

When: THURSDAY, October 3rd, 2024, from 5:30 – 7:00pm in HSB119 Lab.  

All CSU Pueblo students interested in competing with our Spring 2024 #1 CAE nationally ranked CyberWolves team are encouraged to attend. You will compete individually and on a team level against other U.S. university and college students in the many areas of cyber security, such as open source intelligence, cryptography, password cracking, forensics, and web application exploitation.  

Pueblo CC, Pikes Peak CC, Arapahoe CC, all interested high school students are also invited to this in person event.

NEW: Welcome the New Director of ThunderWolf Recreation

Please welcome Calvin Diggs to our campus. Calvin accepted the Director of ThunderWolf Recreation position and began on Tuesday, October 1st. Calvin joins us with many years of experience working and supervising in student recreation. We are excited to have his level of knowledge and experience on staff and hope that you'll help us welcome him to campus!

NEW: Health & Well-being Manager

Kayliegh Travierso has accepted the Health & Well-being Manager position within the Holistic Well-being Pillar of Student Affairs. Kayliegh is responsible for the federally mandated Biennial Review related to alcohol and other drug (AOD) education. Kayliegh also facilitates CADE (Coalition of Colorado Campus Alcohol and Drug Educators) grants to advance the related programming. In addition to her AOD coordinator duties, Kayliegh oversees the business operations of the Counseling Center and the Wolf Pack Wellness Center. Please don't hesitate to contact Kayliegh for presentation or programming ideas or questions related to the clinics.

NEW: GCB Elevator Temporarily Offline

To better accommodate for our faculty, staff, students, and community partners, the GCB elevator will be going through maintenance and repair during October 7th-11th. We realize some people may have concerns or need accommodations. Classes have been relocated and students should be aware of the changes for the week. If you are a student who is unable to attend classes or would like to request further accommodation, contact the Disability Resource and Support Center in the OSC, Room #201.

NEW: Southern Colorado Veteran Food Distribution

The 2024 annual Southern Colorado Veteran Food Distribution will be on Saturday October 12th. Boxes of food will be distributed to Pueblo and Southern Colorado Veterans. 

This is open to all Veterans. Voucher required. 

Students, staff, and faculty who are veterans can pick up a voucher in the MVSC before October 12th. The MVSC is located in the OSC room 114.

Anyone wishing to volunteer to assist with the distribution can sign up at the link provided.

NEW: Search & Screen Committee and Chair Training

Get ready for the must-attend training session for all search and screen committee members! 

Since we've had a huge turnout in the past (seriously, it was like a training party!), we're now offering this session just once a month. So, mark your calendars, clear your schedules, and be there!

This training will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams -- let's face it, who doesn't love a good video call? 

The session is split into two parts:

The first 90 minutes is for all committee members.

The final 30 minutes is for those brave souls who want to take on the role of committee chair (you’ve got this!).

NEW: Disability on Campus: The Latest Findings Higher Ed Needs to Know (Webcast)

Higher education has four million reasons to get quickly up to speed about the latest research and insights on disabled students. That’s because over four million college students in the U.S. have a disability, according to the CDC, and students with disabilities make up more than 20 percent of all U.S. college-goers. 

When you factor in the growing mental health crisis on campuses — as young people nationally report higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation — plus other non-apparent disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and long COVID, it’s a crucial time for leaders in higher education to expand their understanding of disability and how it affects their institutions. 

And the effects are widespread. For many disabled college students, their experience on campus is a never ending series of barriers — physical, digital, and attitudinal — that contribute to lower rates of retention, graduation, and employment than their peers. 

At this live webcast on October 15, leaders and educators in higher education have a professional development opportunity to improve their understanding of disabled students’ experiences and needs — and join an effort to boost postsecondary outcomes on campuses nationwide.  

National Disability Center (NDC) Executive Director Stephanie W. Cawthon, PhD – a leading expert in the field of disability research – teaches this information-packed 45 minute session that dives deeply into the research center’s findings and student perspectives. It covers: 

- Defining disability and its prevalence in higher education 

- Dispelling myths, including about disability disclosure

- Exploring accessibility and student entry points

- Finding your call to action

Accommodations are provided following the NDC's accessibility best practices for meetings and events, and they include ASL interpretation and live captioning.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and on Thursday, October 17th, we invite you to wear purple for Purple Thursday to show support for domestic violence survivors. Purple has long been a symbol of courage, survival, and peace, making it the perfect color to represent the fight against domestic violence and our solidarity with survivors.

By wearing purple, we can help raise awareness and open conversations about this important issue, showing that our campus stands with those affected by domestic violence. It’s a small but powerful gesture that reminds survivors they are not alone and that our community supports them.

The virtual learning sessions have a registration cap of 20 participants, but the recordings and course development workshops are available to any interested instructors.

NEW: Duo Phone Call Verification Ending in October

Effective Thursday, October 31, CSU is enhancing the security of Duo two-factor authentication by changing the available authentication methods.  

Here's what you need to know: 

-Discontinuation of Phone Call Option: The option to receive a phone call for Duo authentication will no longer be available. 

--Users will need to use the Duo Mobile App (recommended) or a Security Key (hardware token) 

 How to Prepare: 

If you currently use phone calls for authentication:  

-Download and set up the Duo Mobile app on your smartphone, or 

-Purchase a YubiKey Security Key online 

Then, register your new device in your account to reflect your new preferred method. 

Why this change? 

-Improves overall security by promoting more secure authentication methods 

-Aligns with industry best practices for multi-factor authentication 

-Enhances user experience by encouraging use of faster, more convenient options

Legislative Internship in Denver, Spring 2025

The Legislative Internship Program offers an unparalleled professional development opportunity. The 6-credit internship entails two work days a week during the spring semester at the capitol in Denver. The internship is sponsored by the Political Science Program and is open to students of all majors. The internship is competitive. Sam Jones Natatorium - POOL NEW HOURS

Beginning October 1, 2024, CSU Pueblo Athletics will take over management of the facility. All access to the pool will be through the Massari Building (there is an elevator to the lower level to the right when you walk into the building). 

PACK Athletics will offer public Lap Swim and General Recreation Swim options weekly.

Unveiling the Southern Colorado Institute of Transportation Technology (SCITT): Beginning of a New Era!

On July 7. 2022, Colorado State University Pueblo unveiled the Southern Colorado Institute of Transportation Technology (SCITT) through a press release and appointed Dr. Md Rashad Islam P.E., a leading transportation academic and researcher, as its inaugural director.  

What is SCITT? 

SCITT is a cutting-edge education, research and development Institute focused on advancing transportation technology. It aims to drive innovation in areas such as highways, railways, multimodal transportation systems, sustainable materials, smart infrastructure, transportation safety, clean energy, autonomous vehicles, hyperloop and beyond.  

SCITT has been established to position CSU Pueblo and Southern Colorado at the forefront of transportation advancements. By fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and government, SCITT will create new opportunities for research, education, and economic growth in our community.
