NEW: De La Tierra: Reflections of Place in the Upper Rio Grande

On behalf of the Colorado History Museum

The Colorado History Museum Center in downtown Denver will hold an extremely special event on October 13th, 2024 in the late afternoon between 5:00 and 6:30 p.m. The event will feature a genealogist panel and a documentary film screening of Cenicero, Co_1856. This film was produced by Rick Vigil, executive producer at Down To Earth Media. This event will highlight the rich cultural heritage and historical significance of Cenicero, Colorado, creating a greater sense of appreciation for all residents of Colorado. By showcasing this documentary, we aim to educate and inspire attendees about the area's history and its impact in the state of Colorado. This gathering will also serve as a platform for community engagement and dialogue, strengthening our collective identity. This documentary highlights Esperanza Hope Gallegos-Lobato's (a 94-year-old grandmother and self published genealogist) family ancestry as well as stories told by San Luis Valley community families. It is highly recommended for faculty, students, and community members to attend this historical event which will also highlight four genealogists from the Colorado Society of Hispanic Genealogy. The Colorado Society of Hispanic Genealogy plays a crucial role in preserving and documenting the rich histories of Hispanic families and communities in Colorado and throughout the Southwest. Their involvement in the event will provide valuable insights into ancestral research and heritage, offering attendees a unique opportunity to connect with their roots. By featuring prominent genealogists from the Colorado Society of Hispanic Genealogy, the event aims to highlight the importance of understanding our shared history and cultural legacy in Colorado and throughout the Southwest.

Search & Screen Committee and Chair Training

On behalf of HRIE

Get ready for the must-attend training session for all search and screen committee members!

Since we've had a huge turnout in the past (seriously, it was like a training party!), we're now offering this session just once a month. So, mark your calendars, clear your schedules, and be there!

This training will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams -- let's face it, who doesn't love a good video call?

The session is split into two parts:

The first 90 minutes is for all committee members.

The final 30 minutes is for those brave souls who want to take on the role of committee chair (you’ve got this!).

Got burning questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out to CSU Pueblo's Employment Specialist, Maggie Miller, at margaret.miller@csupueblo.edu. She’s happy to help!

No registration necessary. Just show up, soak up the knowledge, and remember—attendance will be taken (yes, we’re keeping an eye on you 😉).

Everyone is welcome, so let’s make this training the place to be!

See you there!

Disability on Campus: The Latest Findings Higher Ed Needs to Know (Webcast)

On behalf of Disability Resources

Higher education has four million reasons to get quickly up to speed about the latest research and insights on disabled students. That’s because over four million college students in the U.S. have a disability, according to the CDC, and students with disabilities make up more than 20 percent of all U.S. college-goers.

When you factor in the growing mental health crisis on campuses — as young people nationally report higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation — plus other non-apparent disabilities such as ADHD, autism, and long COVID, it’s a crucial time for leaders in higher education to expand their understanding of disability and how it affects their institutions.

And the effects are widespread. For many disabled college students, their experience on campus is a never ending series of barriers — physical, digital, and attitudinal — that contribute to lower rates of retention, graduation, and employment than their peers.

At this live webcast on October 15, leaders and educators in higher education have a professional development opportunity to improve their understanding of disabled students’ experiences and needs — and join an effort to boost postsecondary outcomes on campuses nationwide.

National Disability Center (NDC) Executive Director Stephanie W. Cawthon, PhD – a leading expert in the field of disability research – teaches this information-packed 45 minute session that dives deeply into the research center’s findings and student perspectives. It covers:

- Defining disability and its prevalence in higher education

- Dispelling myths, including about disability disclosure

- Exploring accessibility and student entry points

- Finding your call to action

Accommodations are provided following the NDC's accessibility best practices for meetings and events, and they include ASL interpretation and live captioning.

Purple Thursday

On behalf of the Office of Institutional Equity

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and on Thursday, October 17th, we invite you to wear purple for Purple Thursday to show support for domestic violence survivors. Purple has long been a symbol of courage, survival, and peace, making it the perfect color to represent the fight against domestic violence and our solidarity with survivors.

By wearing purple, we can help raise awareness and open conversations about this important issue, showing that our campus stands with those affected by domestic violence. It’s a small but powerful gesture that reminds survivors they are not alone and that our community supports them.

NEW: Trick-or-Treating on Campus

On behalf of the Child Care Center

CSU Pueblo Offices:

We hope everyone is doing well and ready for autumn. As the days grow cooler and shorter, the staff at the ECEMS @ CSU-Pueblo Child Care Center is preparing for our Fall activities. One of our activities that our children enjoy the most is “Trick or Treating “on campus for Halloween. This activity provides a safe environment for our little ones to have fun participating in an old tradition.

As in previous years, we will be taking the children dressed in costumes to participating departments to Trick or Treat on Thursday, October 31st beginning at 9:30 am. The need to map out our trip is essential, as our little ones will be doing a lot of walking. We will be walking through the following buildings: OSC-Student Center (9:45-10:10am), the LARC Building (10:15-10:30), the Administration (10:45-11:15am), and the REC Center (11:30-11:45). We are asking departments that would like to participate and provide treats (enough for at least 70 children) for our children, to e-mail us at ( Maricela Palma, Center Director) maricela.palma@colostate-pueblo.edu or (Rita Samora, Center director) rita.e.samora@colostate-pueblo.edu or call EXT: 2745 (by Friday, October 25th ) and let us know so we can include your department in our trip. If your department would like to participate but you are not located in any of these building above, you could either drop off treats at the center or setup a station in one of the buildings to hand out treats.

As always, we thank you for your participation in this event and other activities. The children would not have this opportunity if it were not for your kindness and participation.

NEW: US Premiere, "Voices at the End" Performance - PKAF Festival

On behalf of the Music Department

Voices at the End is described as a digital and acoustic hybrid concerto for six pianos, audio track, and video. Its digital audio landscape comprises a pre-recorded soundscape of recitations, singing and instrumental performances created by Psathas in collaboration with the multi-media artist and composer David Downes. Of Voices at the End, Psathas observes it ‘tackles the uncomfortable condition of perpetual growth and its ruinous effect on our shared environment but offers hope in the form of the work being done to ensure the survival of our species’.
