New Option for Nursing Students Opens in Walsenburg


In the shadow of the Spanish Peaks, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked more than just the opening of a new educational facility. It signaled a potential lifeline for a region grappling with a healthcare crisis that has long plagued rural America. Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) Extended Studies' new nursing program in Walsenburg, set to begin classes this fall, was giving hope in what many describe as a medical desert.


The August morning sun cast long trails across the renovated elementary school building, now adorned with CSU Pueblo's logo and, inside, an abundance of potted plants—a far cry from what one attendee jokingly referred to as "Barney's Playhouse." Just two blocks from Main Street and a stone's throw from the volunteer fire department, the transformed space represents more than just an educational outpost; it's a symbol of rural resilience and forward-thinking collaboration.

This is the training required for search and screen committee members. Due to the large number of employees who have previously attended, we are now only offering this session one time per month, so be sure to attend. This session will be held remotely using the Microsoft Teams link listed below. The first hour and 1/2 is for all committee members. August Budget Roundtable

In order to bring greater transparency to the budget formulation process and university finances overall we are continuing to hold monthly budget roundtables. In August the budget roundtable will take place on August 22 in the Occhiato Student Center South Ballroom from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. These will be held monthly for the foreseeable future to provide greater opportunities for campus stakeholders to share their thoughts and suggestions for budget formulation and execution. These roundtables are open to all of campus and anyone who would like to is encouraged to attend and participate.

NEW: Packfest Music Festival

Mark your calendars for an experience as CSU Pueblo proudly presents 2024 PackFest on Saturday, September 28th featuring KYLE with REDVEIL and Pueblo's Favorite Locals DJ PANIC, BULLHEAD*ED, Rick G, and Southpaq who each bring their unique style and energy to the stage. Along with these renowned artists from various genres, PackFest hosts an array of activities for an unforgettable day of live performances, food trucks, pop up vendors, inflatables rides and games, jumbo lawn games, bull ride and celebration. This event is open to all ages. BULLHEAD*ED will be kicking off the festivities at 5:30 p.m. The festival will be held on the CSU Pueblo campus at the Hasan Amphitheater, an evening of entertainment and connection. Gates for PackFest are set to open at 5 p.m., allowing attendees to arrive early and soak in the atmosphere before the performances commence. With an array of food vendors, merchandise sales, and interactive experiences, there will be no shortage of entertainment and activities for all ages.

Pool Operations Update

On behalf of ThunderWolf Recreation


As of August 18, 2024, the Colorado State University Pueblo Athletics Division will assume ownership of the aquatic center in the Sam Jones Sports Complex. As a partially student fee-funded facility, Athletics will continue to offer open lap swimming hours at least seven times a week when classes are in session. A temporary schedule is posted for August 18th through September 30th. An updated schedule will be posted by October 1st.

 

The Thunderwolf Recreation Center will no longer sell day or multi-passes for using the pool. All current pass holders must use the pass for the pool by September 30, 2024. Pool passes may be purchased from the Athletic ticket office starting Monday, August 19th, 2024. The Center for Integrated Health and Human Inquiry (CIHHI) was instituted in the fall of 2020 by Provost Mohamed Abdelrahman. The Center for Integrated Health and Human Inquiry is a collaborative hub that promotes innovative, interdisciplinary experiences and scientific inquiry to promote human health and knowledge. The CIHHI Steering Committee holds one-hour, bi-weekly meetings via Zoom, typically on Friday mornings from 10am-11am. Please feel free to join us for all or just a portion of the meeting.
