CSU Pueblo Kicks Off Hispanic Serving Institution Week with Vibrant Dance Showcase
The rhythms and sounds of traditional Mexican music stopped passersby outside the Occhiato Student Center at Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) as the Ballet Folklórico dancers stomped in unison. Their colorful costumes told stories of various Mexican states. The performance marked the beginning of National Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Week. The exhibition dance was just part of CSU Pueblo’s commitment to its diverse student body and rich cultural heritage.
Iskra D. Merino, bilingual outreach coordinator and main dance coach for CSU Pueblo Ballet Folklórico, introduced each dance with a brief description of its origin. “Now we are going with the state of Tamaulipas,” Merino announced. “This state is in the northeastern part of Mexico, known for its rich cultural heritage and diverse landscape. The Huapango is a perfect example of Mexican 'Mestizo' (mixed origin) culture.”

Richard Krinsky, Champion of Collegiate Racquetball and Psychology Professor, Dies at 81
Richard Krinsky, a professor of psychology at Colorado State University Pueblo for over 50 years whose coaching prowess led the university's racquetball team to unprecedented national success, died on September 9, 2024, in Pueblo, Colorado. He was 81.
The cause was complications from cancer, according to George Dallam, a colleague who had visited Dr. Krinsky the day before his passing.
Dr. Krinsky's tenure at CSU Pueblo (formerly Southern Colorado State College) began in 1968 when he and his wife, Suzanne, both accepted professorships at the institution. Over the next five decades, he would leave an indelible mark on the university, both in academia and athletics.
