Dear Lovejoy Community:

Mary Summers, a Lovejoy parent, captured this pretty sunset earlier this week. As we move further along in the Fall months, I am particularly mindful of the numerous district-wide accomplishments.

It's a Great Time to Be a Leopard
State Ratings
Lovejoy ISD remains one of the top three highest performing districts out of the 1,227 districts and charter schools in Texas. Lovejoy ISD received a grade of “A”, and is one of only 4 districts of the 1,227 districts and charters to receive a grade of 97 on the 100-point scale. 
Advanced Placement
Lovejoy ISD continues to demonstrate tremendous results with student performance on the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Highlights are:
  • Of the 828 Lovejoy students who took an AP test, 76.9% received a score of 3, 4, or 5 on the 5-point grading scale. The national average is 61.3%.

  • 282 Lovejoy students were named AP Scholars

  • 25 Lovejoy students earned the AP Capstone Diploma by earning a 3 or better on both the AP Seminar and AP Research exams and 3 or higher on at least 4 AP exams

  • 9 Lovejoy students earned the AP Seminar and Research Certificate by earning a 3 or better on both the AP Seminar and AP Research exams
National Merit Scholars
Fourteen Lovejoy High School students were named National Merit Commended Scholars. Four of those students also received the distinction of National Merit Semi-Finalist.
WSMS Journalism Named Finalist
The National Scholastic Press Association named Leopard Life as a Pacemaker Finalist.  Leopard Life is the student newspaper for Willow Springs Middle School.
LHS Journalism Named Finalist
Leopard Spotlight, the flagship show of the Lovejoy News Network, was named a finalist for the National Scholastic Press Association Broadcast Pacemaker Award, one of just 14 programs in the nation to be selected.

Marching Band Excels
The Lovejoy Marching Band had an exciting end to their 2018 contest season. For full details, please read the Recognitions section of Fine Arts News in this edition of Email Express. 

Choir Places in Region 25
Fourteen Lovejoy High school students earned a place in the Region 25 Choirs – the first round of auditions for All-State Choir.

Orchestra and Band Win National Awards
The Willow Springs Middle School Chamber Orchestra, Willow Springs Middle School Percussion Ensemble and Lovejoy High School Percussion Ensemble were named winners in the 2018 Mark of Excellence. 
SCIS and WSMS Orchestras Compete at All Region
The Sloan Creek and Willow Springs Orchestras competed in the All Region Orchestra. Details can be found in the Recognition Section of Fine Arts News in this edition of Email Express.
LHS Orchestra Qualifies for All-State
Ten Lovejoy High School Orchestra students were selected to participate in the Region 25 Honor Orchestra, with five of those students qualifying to record for All-State auditions. Full details are included in the Recognitions section of Fine Arts News in this edition of Email Express. 
Cross Country Moves to State UIL Championship
The state ranked Varsity Boys Cross Country Team secured the Region II Championship on Monday. They will compete in the State UIL Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 3.
The state ranked Varsity Girls Cross Country Team secured a 5th place finish at the Region II Championship with Carson Hockersmith and Amelia Carothers moving to the State Championship as individual qualifiers.

Tennis Team Captures District Championship
The Lovejoy Tennis Team won the District Team 10-5A Tennis Championship and competed in the Bi-District round of the UIL State Team Tennis Tournament. They finished the season with 12 overall wins and 2 losses. 

Volleyball Moves to Bi-District
The Varsity Lady Leopards have secured a spot in the Bi-District Round of the State UIL Volleyball playoffs. Full details may be found in this edition of Email Express in the Athletic News.

Federal Grants
Lovejoy ISD recently received notification of the award of several grants through the US Department of Justice STOP School Violence Competitive Grants totaling $1,000,000.  Click here for details.

FIRST Rating
FIRST is the acronym for the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas, the state’s school financial accountability rating system. FIRST ensures that Texas public schools are held accountable for the quality of their financial management practices and that they improve those practices. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. Lovejoy ISD has been issued a “Superior” rating for 2017-2018 (based on the 2016-2017 fiscal year data), scoring 100 out of 100 possible points.

Friday, October 26 is a student holiday and homecoming. We hope you and your family enjoy a great day off and we look forward to welcoming you to homecoming. It will be a great evening to enjoy the Lovejoy students who make football, cheerleading, drill team, band, and color guard so special.

Last week you received a Special Edition of Email Express regarding a cultural study. Over 800 of you took the time to share your insights, which will help us articulate our core values and translate them into our actions, programs, and community. Early Voting
Early voting began on Monday. The Lovejoy Administration Building is a Collin County Vote Center. Due to our increased safety and security measures, voting is taking place in the Administration Building Training Room, Portable #1. Generating Revenue
Circle of Partners
Lovejoy ISD is focused on generating new sources of revenue to offset our loss of state funding. Our goal is to protect our programs and avoid charging fees for items such as riding the bus. If you have a need for any of the following services, you can help generate revenue for the district by choosing members of the Circle of Partners . Our partners have pledged a charitable give-back (10% or more) to Lovejoy ISD for any business within the district. 
Reinhard Real Estate pledges 10% of gross commission to several non-profits including Lovejoy ISD. Their website can be found at   Reinhard Real Estate . Jeff and Terri Reinhard own Reinhard Real Estate . They are proud Puster parents to fourth grader Ben, and second grader Max.
The Cave Realty Team ( ) pledges 15% of gross commission on homes they help sell or buy within Lovejoy ISD. Team owners Ryan and Sarah Cave are proud parents of Lovejoy Elementary School first grader Adelaide (Addie), with 5-year-old Anders soon to follow.  
Savvy Realty pledges 10% of gross commissions on all closings within Lovejoy ISD combined with a fixed fee program which saves their home-sellers thousands of dollars. Check out for details. Company founders Jeff and Sharon Kofahl are proud parents of Lovejoy High School Juniors Bradley and Brandon and Willow Springs 7th grader, Brady.  

For your landscaping needs we hope you will consider Accent Landscape Management Accent Landscape Management pledges 10% of gross revenues on work performed within Lovejoy ISD. Tutoring 101 and Lovejoy ISD have formed a revenue generating/sharing partnership to bring their services to Lovejoy families. Please see below for several offerings.

Private tutoring is available for students in grades K-12 in all subjects. Tutoring 101 recommends once a week tutoring for an hour to increase grades and learn subject matter more deeply. A once a week appointment usually results in an increase of 1 letter grade or more. Turn those C's into B's.

Fine Arts News

The past few days have held so many wonderful opportunities to see excellence in Lovejoy Arts. From the Lovejoy Marching Band earning all 1’s at UIL and a 3rd place position at the Regional Championships, to the LHS Theatre showcase The Orphan Train in our beautiful Blackbox Theatre, to the WSMS theatre Sing Along with Sebastian, WSMS Band and Choir concerts, and our LHS cheerleaders hosting over 170 Jr. cheerleaders in cheer camp to prepare for cheering the Leopards to victory at Homecoming….Lovejoy Fine Arts truly sets the highest standards.

This past weekend, the orchestra department competed in the All Region Orchestra. This is an individual competition where students are competing for a spot in an “All Star” Orchestra.

Congratulations to the LHS Orchestra members who were selected to participate in the Region 25 Honor Orchestra and the students who qualified to record for All-State auditions.

LHS Majestics
Each week during football season, the Majestics Dance Team select one girl who has demonstrated outstanding dance technique, rehearsal dedication, strong performances, and overall program growth.

Lovejoy Girls Basketball
The Lovejoy Girls Basketball team began their 2018-2019 after-school practices this past Wednesday.

The Lovejoy Boys Basketball team began their first day of UIL practice.

Lovejoy Cross Country
The Varsity Boys are the UIL 5A Region II Cross Country Champions and are moving on to the State UIL Cross Country competition. The Varsity Girls will send two individual competitors to the State competition.

Lovejoy Football
The Varsity Leopards defeated the Princeton Panthers this past Friday. They will compete against the Lake Dallas Falcons on Friday in the Lovejoy Homecoming game.

Lovejoy Golf
Lovejoy Golf competed in the Rowlett Golf Tournament.

Lovejoy Swimming and Diving
Lovejoy Swimming and Diving cruised past McKinney High School at their meet last Thursday.

Lovejoy Volleyball
The Varsity Lady Leopards will face Frisco Lebanon in the Bi-District round of the State UIL Volleyball playoffs in Allen on Tuesday, October 30.

Danielle Brochu – Class of 2015
Danielle, a Senior at the University of Illinois and pitcher on the ILLINI softball team, will graduate in May with a Business Management Degree. She was recently selected as a 2017-18 Easton/NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete, as well as named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team for 2018. We are #lovejoyproud.
