A Message from the Superintendent

Dear  Lovejoy Community:

This past week found our students engaged in a wide variety of activities which were captured in some great photos. The LHS Performing Arts department presented Fiddler on the Roof, the LHS swim team was engaged in a most successful district competition, the varsity boys bowling team enjoyed their first win against Allen, and six LHS Seniors who are National AP Scholars joined the Board of Trustees for dinner, along with teachers who have impacted their education while at Lovejoy High School.  Many other learning opportunities and extracurricular events took place, and we hope each of those experiences made for a great week in Lovejoy.
Please take time to read our Deputy Superintendent's, Dennis Muizers, report on the Academic Decathlon team in this edition of Email Express.

LHS Varsity Boys Bowling
Congratulations to the Varsity Boys Bowling team for a job well done at their match this past Monday. During the five years of the LHS bowling team, the Varsity Boys have not had a win against Allen...until now.
The boys came out very strong, winning 4 out of 5 of their individual matches, and then rallied together for an amazing finish during the team event, taking 2 out of 3 games.
This was a very important win for the team, as they are now tied for 2nd place in district.

January is School Board Recognition Month
January is set aside each year as a special time for our community to celebrate the contributions of our school board, and to say thank you for their dedication to the students, parents, staff members, and community.
In appreciation of our Board, six Lovejoy High School Seniors, who are National AP Scholars, were invited to have dinner with the board prior to the January Board meeting.  The six National AP Scholars are:
Holden Bentley
Ben Buhse
Noah Corbitt
Marcus Mao
John Reaves
Tommy Rousey
Each scholar invited two LHS teachers to join them for the dinner.  The teachers were chosen as educators who made a positive impact on the scholars during their time at Lovejoy High School. It was a great event in celebration of the tremendous accomplishments of the scholars, the dedication and commitment of their invited teachers, and the gratitude and respect our community has for the school board members.

A Message from the Deputy Superintendent
Academic Decathlon

Dear Lovejoy Community:
Eight Lovejoy students participated in the Region 9 Academic Decathlon on Friday, January 20th and Saturday, January 21st in Coppell, Texas. The United States Academic Decathlon (USAD) is a program which provides high school students an opportunity to experience the challenges of rigorous academic competition through participation in team activities. Students compete in ten different areas: art, music, economics, essay, science, social sciences, math, interview, speech, and language. The culminating event is the Super Quiz relay, a fast-paced, public exhibition. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out.
Each year, schools compete in the 10 academic categories to show how much they have learned about that year's topic.  This year's team tackled the theme, "World War II", and competed in one of the most competitive regions in the State of Texas.  LHS team members are seniors Noah Corbitt and Dan Orr, juniors Taite Borozny and Anna Redman, and freshmen Sophia Foster, Justin Maroney, Joe Harris, and Brenden Diaz. Top scorers in each division were Noah Corbitt, Brenden Diaz, and Taite Borozny. Coaches Jason Taylor and Amy Olsen led the team to an overall score of 26,967.4.

The topic for 2017-2018 will be announced on March 1, and preparation for next year's competition will begin.  Any student interested in joining the team should contact Mr. Taylor ( click here), or Mrs. Olsen ( click here).

We hope you love where you have chosen for your child to learn.  If you have feedback to help us improve, please do not hesitate to contact me on my cell at 214.385.1967 or via email at .
