Dear Reader
Apparently, pundits and bookmakers alike are still betting on the possibility of a UD-NA-SMCP combination. What are the odds? 13 to 8 or 13 to 9?
An avid StMaartenNews.com newsletter subscriber points out in an email to the publisher that her apartment in Cay Bay and her home in Dawn Beach are still not yet connected to the GEBE grid in contradiction to the statement made by VROMI Minister Miklos Gitterson on Wednesday.
If just one person has these two issues, what are the odds that there are other home owners with the same problem? We invite persons still unconnected to let us know their situation as well.
The odds are also good that Head of Mission, Nico Schoof, who held a farewell cocktail party at the Pasangrahan Hotel yesterday, will be back on St. Maarten as early as next month. However, this will be in his capacity as chairman of the Progress Committee. The responsibilities of the HOM will be taken over by Dutch Representative on St. Maarten, Chris Johnson.
Finally, we would also like to increase the odds of fewer invalid ballots being incurred by having the Central Voting Bureau, which is an independent authority on St. Maarten, get more budget for a year-round information campaign informing the general public about the election process, how to vote and fill in a ballot, and about the fundamental issues surrounding the question why it is important to come out and vote during the elections.
Last bet...
What are the odds that we will see a stable government last a full term of 4 years?
Here is an incentive for the politicians.
If you all manage to maintain a full term of 4 years, chances are you will be rewarded with an increase from 15 to 17 seats in the Parliament of Sint Maarten, thereby increasing your chances of being re-elected.
Don't believe us? Check this out with the Electoral Council when you are submitting your annual report.
In the meantime, do enjoy reading our newsletter today. In it we learn who the real chess master is, despite Theo Heyliger actually winning the election and solidifying his position as leader of the United Democrats (UD) as the ONLY politician to earn his seat in Parliament outright.
Have a great day!
