Dear Reader

With the pressure on to get an answer when the PJIA's SXM Airport will be reopened for commercial flights, the Minister of Aviation Affairs, Mellissa Arrindell-Doncher, saw it fit to issue a public statement that no official date has been announced by government for the resumption of commercial flights into St. Maarten.

The Minister stressed that travelers need to be careful with any information unless it comes from the official source, in other words, the government of St. Maarten. She said there is some confusion being created by, among other things, airlines announcing dates that they hope to resume service to the island.

“When we are at that point to accept commercial flights again, we will announce this and in due time. At the moment there is no date." the Minister stated. Read the full statement online here on our website.

In the meantime, repair work continues undiminished at the airport, which is evident from the photos taken by our photo-journalist, Milton Pieters. View photos on our Facebook page here.

In the today's edition we feature an interview with a 19-year old who recounts her nervous experiences before, during and after hurricane Irma. She was so panicky, that she even failed to prepare properly for the storm and did not have enough water to last in the days after hurricane Irma passed. Read her frank account online here.

We wrap up this introduction with the following good news on the recovery front:
